A Snapshot of Your Day

As an O&M Field Engineer at Siemens Energy, you’ll be the on-site engineering lead ensuring the safe, reliable operation of the Hirwaun OCGT power plant. Your day will be a mix of hands-on maintenance, technical troubleshooting, and close coordination with our remote operations team. You’ll work with specialist contractors, support outage planning, and guide engineering decisions that keep the plant running efficiently. You can expect a collaborative, safety-driven culture where your technical expertise directly supports our mission to deliver dependable power and move toward a more resilient energy future. Some days may involve travel to other OCGT sites, giving you opportunities to broaden your impact across multiple projects.

How You’ll Make an Impact

  • Operate and maintain the power plant in line with OEM guidance, engineering best practices, and all UK laws and safety regulations.
  • Support decision-making processes that ensure strong performance and high reliability throughout the plant’s lifecycle.
  • Maintain all tools, equipment, and systems in compliance with statutory requirements—including the Pressure Systems Safety Regulations where applicable.
  • Lead the supervision and execution of site operations, maintenance tasks, engineering activities, and contractor management.
  • Support the development and upkeep of ISO-certified management systems (ISO 9001, 14001, 45001, and ISO 55001:2014).
  • Diagnose faults, plan and perform maintenance, and execute repairs to return equipment to service safely and efficiently.
  • Ensure all maintenance and engineering tasks meet EQS compliance.
  • Provide technical expertise to the project team and use the OAM computerized Plant Management System for reporting and work execution.
  • Contribute to Siemens Energy’s Asset Care Programme, including data engineering, criticality assessments, and condition-based maintenance.
  • Act as Authorised or Senior Authorised Person when required and uphold all plant safety regulations.
  • Support outage planning and execution, liaising with clients and contractors for smooth delivery.
  • Lead or support RCA and FMEA investigations into site issues and incidents.
  • Assist the Project Management team with additional tasks when needed.

What You Bring

  • You’re a practical, hands-on engineer with strong technical understanding of plant operations, maintenance principles, and safe engineering practices.
  • At least 5 years of operational or maintenance experience, ideally within power generation, with an Electrical or C&I bias.
  • A mindset that prioritizes safety, quality, and compliance in every task.
  • Natural leadership skills and the ability to coordinate people, resources, and contractors effectively.
  • Self-motivation and the ability to prioritize work in a dynamic environment.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills that help you collaborate across teams and with clients.
  • Experience recording, analyzing, and reporting accurate operational or maintenance data.
  • Preferably educated to HNC level or equivalent, with a health & safety qualification being an advantage.
