A Snapshot of Your Day

The Siemens Winston Service Center is seeking an expert and hands-on Manufacturing Engineer – Tooling and Process. A successful candidate in this position will be responsible for developing tooling and processes for the manufacture and repair of new and engine-run land-based power generation turbine components. The position also provides ongoing shop floor support of production processes within Siemens Energy Gas Turbine Service Division.

How You’ll Make an Impact

Primary responsibilities will include:

  • Design, development, and qualification of fixtures and gages for turbine blades, vanes and other components
  • Craft and develop tooling that improves the capability and efficiency of the production process
  • Design and development of tooling for machining processes
  • Design and development of custom gages for inspection processes
  • Development and qualification of processes for gas turbine blades, vanes, and other components made from stainless steel and superalloys
  • Support the development of inspection plans and controls for leading and improving the capability of the production process.
  • Develop work instructions, procedures, key cards, and related manufacturing documentation for machining operations.
  • Contribute to development and qualification projects (scheduling, design of experiments, experimentation, reporting, documentation) with full responsibility for due dates, results, and costs associated with your agreed tasks
  • Support projects through all phases, conception, R&D, qualification, production implementation, and continued production support
  • Support continuous process improvements (analysis, solution finding, implementation) around machining processes and methods
  • Work with production personnel to implement, troubleshoot, and improve repair processes
  • Collaborate with management, product engineering, peer engineers, and operators to support the realization of high-quality, stable processes. Provide data and documentation for product process qualifications (PPQ), work instructions, and manufacturing quality control plans.

What You Bring

  • Skilled in the interpretation of product and manufacturing drawings and specifications
  • Ability to program equipment such as hole drillers, robots, grinders
  • Knowledge in identifying, analyzing, and correcting process issues such as surface finish, and dimensional control.
  • Knowledge of process control and statistical process analysis and design of experiments
  • Good knowledge of upstream and downstream processes used in turbine component manufacturing is a plus.
  • Knowledge of designing and troubleshooting component fixtures
  • Solid understanding of MS Office (Project, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook)

Preferred Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience

  • Expertise in Siemens NX CAD/CAM and product data management systems. NX 11, Siemens Teamcenter
  • Knowledge of MasterCam/Robotmaster
  • Associate degree or higher in mechanical, manufacturing engineering, machining technology, or similar
  • B.S. or M.S. in Manufacturing or Industrial Engineering
  • Knowledge and professional experience in project management
  • Flexibility in working non-standard shifts as needed
