A Snapshot of Your Day
The Controls and Automation (CA) Project Manager is responsible for project planning and oversight of planned activities from beginning to end. They balance budgets, keep track of work in progress, collaborate with suppliers, manage risks, and ensure projects are completed per schedule.
The individual will work with engineering, drafting, supply chain management, manufacturing, quality, and shipping to ensure the overall scope of supply per the quotation proposals is achieved. The individual will manage multiple controls & automation projects at the same time and will present and support project’s financials monthly reviews.
The candidates will have the opportunity to communicate with all levels of the organization, for example, technically supporting the scope of supply to other professionals, or resolving customer concerns.
This position will report into the Project Development Manager of Controls & Automation and will be based in Houston, TX.
How You’ll Make an Impact
- Manage the order entry and transition process for assigned projects. Review order-entry and facilitate the receipt of all required information. Drive adherence to the Order Entry Process. Initiate the project through required formalities and internal/external kickoff meetings.
- Take full ownership of the scope, budget, and schedule for assigned projects, and manage those constraints after the order award. Fully understand the provisions of the contract for the project, regularly apprising functional representatives of salient provisions, and ensuring organizational compliance with all requirements.
- Develop project plans as necessary to successfully execute the project. Monitor and maintain the project schedule including identification of the critical path and near critical path items to maintain delivery and cost objectives. Effectively report the progress and status of the project to management and the client by the project plan. Adequately document all subsequent (addendum) contractual agreements, both technical and commercial. Develop project-specific risk management plans and proactively manage technical and commercial risk throughout project execution to minimize company exposure.
- Manage and maintain the project budget, initiating and facilitating corrective action to maintain financial objectives and revenue recognition. Positively influence financial position, by cash flow management, working with accounting group and client to ensure timely issue and collection of invoices related to milestone payments.
- Support the project through the warranty phase, working with the Commissioning Engineering Team member to address installation, startup, or warranty issues.
- Conduct Lessons Learned meetings for all projects; identify corrective actions and standard methodologies.
What You Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, or a related subject area is required.
- 5+ years of project management experience in Controls and Automation for rotating equipment. Those with more experience may be considered for a higher level.
- Experience dealing directly with urgent critical-path project items, achievements, and key project deliverables. Comprehensive knowledge of project management concepts, practices and procedures, and schedule management tools (e.g., MS Project, OnePM or equivalent)
- Proficiency in the application of computerized systems, including standard business applications (i.e., MS Office). Qualified individuals can clearly and precisely communicate effectively both orally & written. Candidates will prepare & make presentations to any internal /external client level.
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally as business requires.
- Desirable: Project management certification (e.g., PMP); familiarity with PLCs, HMIs, and centrifugal/reciprocating compressors, as well as gas/steam turbines.
