A Snapshot of Your Day
As a Senior Primary Design Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in our Grid Technology division, contributing to the design and development of high voltage substations. You will collaborate with a dynamic team of engineers and external partners, ensuring that our projects meet the highest standards of quality, safety, and efficiency. Your expertise will help shape the future of energy systems, making a tangible impact on the energy transition.


How You’ll Make an Impact

  • Provide technical input for substation designs to support the creation of 3D models.
  • Review and produce primary engineering design calculations, drawings, and documents, ensuring compliance with specifications and safety standards.
  • Manage external design resources, overseeing the review and approval of deliverables.
  • Offer technical support and guidance to both internal and external design engineers.
  • Participate in HAZID, HAZOP, and HAZCON meetings to address technical issues.
  • Maintain design change control processes and respond to non-conformances.
  • Coordinate with various departments and attend site meetings to resolve construction-related issues.
  • Assist in the professional development of junior engineering staff.


What You Bring

  • HNC or Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Professional Engineering (e.g., Chartered) status, or currently working towards completion.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in the Electricity Transmission and Distribution industry, with at least 3 years in the UK Transmission System.
  • Strong knowledge of HV substation design standards and health and safety regulations.
  • Ability to manage small design teams and mentor junior engineers.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Experience in sustainability and environmental design considerations is a plus.
