Investigate CO2 as refrigerant for industrial heat pump

A Snapshot of Your Day

Do you want to understand Heat Pumps from scratch?
In our Heat Pump team, we have a clear vision “energize society with Decarbonized Solutions” and yes, it is truth. From when we started to work to supply heat with our SHP-C600 over 30 years ago it has never been a bigger interest to decarbonize the heat production. With 50 units delivered and more than 6 million operating hours in total we have knowledge that other would dream about.
By taken advantage of sources that other see as waste, such as seawater, sewage water, outdoor air, geothermal production etc we provide 15-40MW thermal energy for district heating systems or process industry. Through these sources, Siemens Energy heat pumps can generate 3-5 times the heat they consume in electric energy.
Would you like to be a part of our dedicated and help improve us and be a part of our next generation heat pump this is the opportunity for you.

How You’ll Make an Impact

● Your responsibility will be to make a literature study on heat pump cycle solution with CO2 as refrigerant. The benchmark will be our current solution.
● Design of a radial compressor to handle CO2 as refrigerant including evaluation of back-swept angle, inducer part design.
● Make the first system design and compressor design 1-d -> 3-d geo design -> CFD of a heat pump using other refrigerant based on the evaluation performed.
● Investigate influence of high impeller exit Mach Number

What You Bring
● Interested and curious of the future energy landscape development.
● Interested of heat pump technology and would like to learn more about heat pump application.
● Taking a master within energy technology focusing on thermodynamics and turbomachinery design.
● Tired to how we waste heat in the society.

About the Team
We are a dedicated group of around 35 persons that are responsible and cover the complete life cycle of the Heat Pump from front edge R&D, sales, delivery, manufacturing to upgrades and optimizations of already existing heat pumps.

Through our Generation division, we enhance and innovate conventional and renewable power supply. Currently, we're reducing carbon emissions of existing assets and developing technologies that transform power generation applications.
