Senior Legal Counsel at Siemens Energy
We are seeking a highly skilled and business-oriented Senior Legal Counsel with 5-10 years of professional experience to join our dynamic legal department. The successful has a profound understanding of commercial and corporate law, particularly within the energy sector and a focus on the south, west and east African countries. This role demands exceptional expertise in regulatory affairs, contract management, and corporate documentation, coupled with strong interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate across all levels of the organization.
How You’ll Make an Impact
- The Senior Legal Counsel will be responsible for providing expert legal advice and guidance on a broad range of commercial and corporate law matters pertinent to the energy industry. This includes managing and advising on regulatory compliance, specifically concerning interactions with government entities and various industry platforms.
- A core function of this role involves drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a wide array of corporate and commercial contracts, ensuring their legal soundness and alignment with the company’s business objectives.
- The Legal Counsel will oversee the preparation and review of corporate documents, policies, and procedures, while proactively identifying and mitigating legal risks to safeguard the company’s interests.
- The role also entails conducting thorough legal research and analysis to support strategic decision-making and ensure adherence to evolving legal frameworks.
- Collaboration with internal stakeholders, including senior management, business units, and other departments, is crucial for providing timely and effective legal support.
- As 25% of the role also cover compliance support, it is required to be a trusted advisor to management on all Compliance topics, including the seven focus areas of compliance: anti-corruption, anti-money laundering, anti-trust, collective action, data privacy, export control, and human rights. The Senior Legal Counsel will manage compliance due diligences and reviews for business partners, gifts & hospitality, Contributions, LoA activities, and any other requirements, as well as conduct regular Compliance updates with Management and ensure action items are managed
- Legal Counsel will contribute to the development and implementation of internal legal training and awareness programs.
What You Bring
- Candidates should possess a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from a recognized university, with a Master of Laws (LLM) or an equivalent advanced legal degree being highly desirable.
- A minimum of 5 years of post-qualification experience as a Legal Counsel is required, preferably gained within the energy sector or a large corporate environment.
- Proven track record in handling complex commercial and corporate legal matters, regulatory compliance, and comprehensive contract management.
- The ideal candidate will possess a very solid knowledge of commercial law, corporate law, and the specific regulatory frameworks applicable to the energy sector, with a focus on the south, west and east African countries.
- A strong business orientation is essential, enabling the candidate to understand complex business operations and provide practical, commercially sound legal advice.
- High proficiency in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating sophisticated commercial contracts and corporate documents is a key requirement.
- Demonstrated experience in dealing with government entities and navigating regulatory requirements within the geographical scope is also crucial.
- Fluency in both written and spoken English is essential for effective communication, fluency in Portuguese is not a mandatory requirement, but a very strong plus and will positively influence decision making.
- The role demands excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities, alongside exceptional communication, negotiation, and presentation skills to build strong relationships and influence stakeholders.
- Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy in all legal documentation and advice, coupled with the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team, are vital soft skills for this role.
