A Snapshot of your Day
You will be responsible for supporting the business in successful winning and execution of Engineering, Safety by design in Projects. The Design Manager will report directly to the bid / project manager and shall have technical authority over the engineering team assigned to the bid / project. As part of this role, you will be presented with a chance to work with some forward-thinking minds in the transmission and offshore Windfarm industry, who are at the core of a company that is pioneer in UK for delivering offshore Windfarm solutions and other major transmission system projects, such as sophisticated substations, FACTS, Synchronous condensers.

Your Responsibilities
- Responsible for the technical solution, you will be a technical expert and point of contact for the internal project management team and the customer
- Lead all technical interfaces, technical co-ordination, technical meetings.
- Technical management of a team of multi-discipline engineers to ensure, all engineering work can be provided in timely manner during the acquisition and execution stages of the project.
- Ensuring effective CDM design compliance. Responsible for Siemens Energy Safety by Design and ensure that the same is implemented and followed throughout the project by all relevant partners.
- Ensure that all customer functional and technical requirements are fully incorporated into the overall technical design solution (i.e., requirements management / traceability).
- Chair design reviews / workshops and technical interface clarifications between project areas, etc.
- Develop agreed divisions of responsibility between internal and external parties related to design engineering.
- Provide technical support to the Project Manager where requested.
- Moderation, decision, and conclusion of engineering specific issues between subject areas, liaison with project engineers and project managers to find resolution.
- Configuration management and change control management, implementation of design baselines / freezes.
- Management of design risk assessments (DRA), hazard and safety analysis (HAZID), HAZOPs, and other safety by design activities.
Your Profile
Key skills for the role
- Conversant with the latest HV, MV and LV plant standards and technologies.
- In depth knowledge of power system engineering, substation primary and secondary design, MV plant, and HV plant operation and maintenance; including health and safety, applicable standards, specifications, regulations, industry custom and practice etc.
- Understanding of the platform fabrication and civil design and construction industry including the relevant standards and procedures
- Solid understanding of Safety by Design, and Constructability requirements of substations
- You will understand CDM regulations, especially discharging Designer duties.
- Good standard of IT literacy (especially Word and Excel). Excellent written communication and interpersonal skills.
- It would be beneficial if you already have Prior Project Management qualifications and experience, Chartered Engineer status, Chartered Manager status, Experience of continuous improvement projects, LEAN engineering experience, Resource management experience, Experience as Principal Designer Representative.
