In this role, you will play an integral part in ensuring that the gas turbine blades and vanes procurement team has access to stable and consistent supply chain and procurement process data by helping to enable dashboard reporting and advanced analytics projects. As a part of the blades and vanes procurement data science team, you will help design, implement and maintain foundational data architecture that meets both business needs and enables future iterative development. You will also serve as the team’s expert regarding database architecture best practices, data management strategy, compliance with data security rules and being a liaison with Siemens Energy IT regarding database operations. As the blades and vanes procurement data engineer, you will also work closely with data scientists and subject matter experts in the process of crafting project requirements, enabling user testing on data products and helping to shepherd database projects through the development lifecycle.
How You’ll Make an Impact (responsibilities)
- Design, develop, deploy and maintain database objects, ETL/ELT pipelines, and system infrastructure for blades and vanes procurement in our Snowflake relational database management system.
- Collaborate with the procurement data science team to help craft requirements, track project progress, document solutions and establish scalable and generalizable database architecture for blades and vanes supply chain data.
- Propose, design and implement architectural improvements to existing data products to help continuously improve our ability to deliver business intelligence services and advanced analytics project value.
- Serve as the main liaison for central Siemens Energy IT services to ensure compliance with data security needs and company policy.
What You Bring (requirements)
- Bachelors Degree or higher in computer science or other field of study (STEM, Economics, Quantitative Social Science) with a strong emphasis on quantitative analysis and data management. Advanced degree or strong direct equivalent experience in a previous data engineering role is preferred but not necessary.
- 2-3 years of experience in data engineering or full-stack data science role is expected. This is a mid-level role that requires comfort with foundational entry level skills alongside the ability to operate in a semi-autonomous and ambiguous environment to help design and drive data engineering projects.
- Advanced proficiency in SQL programming and at least intermediate proficiency in Python or R programming. Strong understanding of systems design/thinking, database architecture frameworks (star schema, data products, etc). Experience working in an agile development environment and comfort with CI/CD pipelines alongside collaborative management of code via Git. Previous experience with Snowflake, Streamlit, AWS cloud tools, Docker, PowerBI and SAP is strongly preferred but not required for candidates that are strong in foundational skills.
- Robust collaboration skills and experience working with both technical and non-technical teams. Demonstrated ability to operate in an international and multi-cultural working environment.
- Interest in transitioning legacy systems and solving problems in a fast-paced and sometimes ambiguous working environment.
