A Snapshot of Your Day

The control system design engineer will be responsible for the design of aeroderivative gas turbine control systems for modernizations and upgrades.

The designs are required to meet the requirements of the AGT controls aftermarket by taking old system designs and providing an architecture solution using modern PLC systems. 

The position will entail development of the system and working closely with the drafting team to produce the necessary project documents. Providing the software team with the necessary requirements to be able to develop the system software and HMI.

The control system design engineer will report to the controls engineering manager. They will form part of a controls system design team responsible for providing upgrade solutions from obsolescence to complete control system replacements.

Primary Location US- Texas – Houston 1200 W. Sam Houston Parkway N.

How You’ll Make an Impact

  • Design of gas turbine control systems - Schematics, Assembly Diagrams, Control Panel Layouts.
  • Architecture of control systems.
  • Part selection and preparation of control system Bills of Materials.
  • Design of control system architectures.
  • Loop Diagram generation.
  • Specification of field instruments (Transmitters, Switches, Control Valve, Solenoids etc).
  • Junction Box Layouts.
  • Conduit Layouts.
  • Coordination with the drafting team to produce documents for gas turbine control system retrofits.
  • Coordination with the panel build facility to resolve issues at time of panel build.
  • Release of Control system designs for customer review and for panel assembly.
  • Preparation of software logic flow diagrams, alarm and trip documents, and controls narratives for use to develop the software solution.
  • Coordination with the software team to ensure design intent is met.
  • Working within project budget and timescale.
  • Communication with customers
  • Travel 20% could be international travel as well.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical, instrumentation and controls engineering or similar, or 10 years of relevant experience.
  • Effective communication skills both verbal and written, both 1-1 and group situations.
  • 5 years or more experience working in a power industry engineering environment.
  • Process knowledge of industrial control systems.
  • Panel design
  • Strong team working skills and creative problem-solving skills.
  • A high level of attention to detail.
  • Adaptable to change, able to switch between different control systems designs on different projects.
  • Familiar with the NEC, NFPA, ISA, IEC, CSA, UL, ATEX, NEMA and other industry relevant standards and directives.
  • Familiar with hazardous area classification.
  • Applicants must be legally authorized for employment in the United States without need for current or future employer-sponsored work authorization. Siemens Energy employees with current visa sponsorship may be eligible for internal transfers.

Preferred Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience:

  • Familiar with Rockwell Control Logix and Flex IO systems
  • Familiar with Siemens Team Center
  • Microsoft office applications including Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Familiar with turbo compressor systems.
  • Familiar with Bently Nevada, Detronics F&G, Woodward Micronet and CCC.
