Are you ready to elevate your engineering career? We are on the lookout for a highly skilled and experienced Principal Applications Mechanical Design Engineer to join our innovative and dynamic team. In this pivotal role, you will be at the forefront of developing cutting-edge solutions by replacing obsolete and outdated auxiliary equipment on industrial gas turbines. Your work will ensure the continued reliability and efficiency of our products. You will engage in a variety of exciting tasks, including creating innovative design solutions and refining 3D CAD designs using Siemens NX software. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams such as fluid systems, controls, and electrical engineers to ensure your designs seamlessly integrate into projects, keeping them on track and on budget.

How You'll Make an Impact:

  • System Upgrades: Apply the latest systems and technologies to enhance the performance and reliability of our gas turbine package auxiliary equipment.
  • Technical Interface: Collaborate with internal departments, regional divisions, suppliers, and customers to ensure project upgrades are executed within allocated budgets and timescales.
  • Standardisation: Document solutions that can be applied consistently across projects.
  • Obsolescence Management: Identify and source replacements for components and systems to maintain equipment functionality.
  • Product Improvement: Propose and implement package upgrades to enhance the overall product lifecycle.
  • 3D CAD Modelling: Create and maintain CAD models, layouts, and detailed engineering drawings.
  • BOM Management: Generate and maintain Bill of Materials (BOM), including part creation in Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) software.
  • Documentation: Generate and maintain engineering documentation such as engineering drawings, design calculations, purchase specifications, and technical reports.
  • Sales Support: Provide technical recommendations to support future upgrades.

What You Bring:

  • Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent in a related engineering field is preferred. HNC in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent in a related engineering field and time served may be considered.
  • Relevant Experience: Several years of experience in a design and 3D CAD role within an associated or similar industry. Preferred candidates will have experience in piping design related to Gas/Steam Turbine and/or Gas Compression auxiliary packaged systems.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in 3D CAD with experience in Siemens NX.
  • Software Proficiency: Knowledge of PLM software would be advantageous while experience in MS Office Suite is essential. Preferred candidates will have experience in Siemens NX and PLM.
  • Communication Skills: Exceptional communication and coordination abilities.
  • Self-Management: Ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously and deliver them within set timescales.
  • Leadership: Overseeing and reviewing the work of team members, providing guidance and mentoring junior designers/engineers.
  • Problem-Solving: Excellent problem-solving skills with the capability to troubleshoot complex engineering challenges independently.
  • Attitude: A proactive and positive attitude, with attention to detail and the ability to think clearly and solve problems effectively.
