A Snapshot of Your Day
You’ll be working on customer substation sites across the UK, carrying out commissioning, installation, and maintenance activities on high-voltage AIS switchgear, primarily Siemens Energy AIS Circuit Breakers (132–400kV). This is a site-based role, with offices available in Newcastle and Leeds if required.
Your day will involve HV AIS Circuit Breaker commissioning activities, supervising installations, completing planned and reactive maintenance, performing site visits, and producing accurate technical and safety documentation. You’ll work closely with the operational delivery team and support other SE Transmission Services teams when needed, all while maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality, and professionalism.
How You’ll Make an Impact
- Commission Siemens Energy AIS Circuit Breakers (132–400kV) on customer sites
- Supervise installation activities in line with manufacturer specifications
- Carry out planned and reactive maintenance on HV switchgear
- Hold Site Safety Documents / Permits to Work where authorised
- Produce RAMS, test documentation, and detailed site reports
- Plan daily work activities, anticipating and resolving issues proactively
- Liaise with Project Managers and report progress or challenges
- Support other SE Transmission Services teams (Transformers, GIS, etc.)
- Ensure full compliance with health, safety, environmental, and legislative requirements
- Maintain high technical and quality standards across all work activities
- Participate in ongoing training to maintain authorisations and competency
What You Bring
Preferred Qualifications & Certifications
- HNC in Electrical & Electronic Engineering or equivalent experience
- Time-served apprenticeship with C&G / NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent)
- CCNSG Leading a Team Safely, SMSTS or SSSTS
- Safety Passport
- National Grid Persons
- SPEN Authorisations
- SF6 Gas Handling certification
- Manual Handling, MEWP, Harness & Lanyard Awareness
- Fire Marshal, PASMA Scaffold
- First Aid at Work
- CDM Awareness
Experience & Skills
Essential
- Strong understanding of electrical schematic diagrams
- Full UK driving licence (nationwide travel required)
Preferred
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in HV substations (commissioning, installation, or maintenance)
- Experience liaising with customers
- Leading working parties on site
- Holding Site Safety Documents / Permits for Work
- Knowledge of circuit breaker timing test equipment (Omicron, Megger, Kocos)
- Wiring installation and modifications
- Mechanical fitting experience
