A Snapshot of Your Day
Join our dynamic metallurgical laboratory where you provide accurate materials advice to ensure reliable, cost effective products. You’ll partner with Design, Quality, Manufacturing, and Procurement to support small gas turbine engine components manufactured in Lincoln. You gather and analyse process data, review drawings and special processes, and validate components to uphold quality. You advise on non conforming materials and guide material selection and manufacturing processes with clear, practical recommendations. As you grow, you deepen your expertise in industrial manufacturing, especially in the aerospace sector, and become a trusted voice for materials decisions.
How You’ll Make an Impact
• Support suppliers, procurement, quality, manufacturing, and engineering with timely metallurgical advice for small gas turbine components.
• Gather and analyse process related data to inform decisions and resolve issues.
• Review manufacturing special processes, validate components, and review engineering drawings to ensure compliance and quality.
• Advise on the disposition of non conforming materials and recommend corrective actions.
• Guide engineering on material selection and manufacturing processes to maintain the highest possible quality and cost effectiveness.
What You Bring
• A Degree or equivalent in a Materials/Metallurgical discipline.
• Relevant industrial experience is preferred; recent graduates will be considered.
• Practical, hands on experience in metallurgical preparation and evaluation of components related to gas turbine manufacture.
• Knowledge of special processes in one or more of: aerospace/high performance metallic and ceramic materials; precision investment castings; additive manufacture and powder techniques; critical rotating forgings; structural engine castings; CNC and conventional machining (grinding, EDM, laser, near surface metallurgy); surface engineering and modification (thermal spray, PVD, CVD coatings, weld cladding); thermal processing (HIP, vacuum, and other heat treatments).
• A solid understanding of typical materials used in gas turbine manufacturing and their associated manufacturing techniques.
About the Team
Our metallurgical laboratory supports the business with precise materials data using robust mechanical testing and analysis methodologies. The team works across tensile, HCF, LCF, crack propagation, stress relaxation, creep, oxidation and corrosion disciplines, expanding to other methods as required. We collaborate closely with Service and Overhauls, Design Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, and Siemens Energy worldwide to uphold high standards of testing and analysis. The laboratory validates critical components and assists with fault analysis for the business. We also contribute to future technology initiatives and advance materials testing methodologies, particularly for high temperature materials. In a fast paced environment, we combine analytical rigour with collaborative problem solving to deliver trusted insights. Early career colleagues receive hands on training to build competence across the testing portfolio.
