A Snapshot of Your Day

We are expanding our Digital Core team and are looking for an API Expert & Product Manager who can combine hands-on API consulting/architecture with end-to-end API product ownership. You will contribute in defining API strategy and roadmap, lead contract-first API design, guide delivery, adoption, and operations for enterprise APIs used across Siemens Energy and partner ecosystems.

How You’ll Make an Impact

·        Run technical deep-dive and architecture sessions with internal stakeholders, customers, and partners; translate needs into API product requirements and a delivery roadmap.

·        Own the full API product lifecycle: discovery, definition, design, build, launch, evolution (versioning), and retirement/deprecation planning.

·        Define and maintain API product strategy: target consumers, value proposition, success metrics, and release planning (MVP to scale).

·        Lead API contract design (OpenAPI / AsyncAPI) and ensure contract-driven development, validation with stakeholders, and backward compatibility.

·        Drive API governance: standards, documentation quality, security/compliance requirements, versioning, and developer experience practices.

·        Partner with architects, product owners, business analysts, and development teams to design, develop, test, and deliver APIs and downstream integrations (e.g., SAP ERP/S/4, Salesforce).

·        Ensure APIOps automation for configuration and releases (CI/CD), test coverage, peer reviews, and high code quality.

·        Set up and track KPI dashboards for adoption, reliability, performance, security/compliance, and developer experience; use insights to prioritize improvements.

·        Establish support and operations readiness: SLAs/SLIs/SLOs, incident management, escalation, client communications, and post-incident reviews.

·        Act as a technical evangelist for API patterns and best practices; coach and mentor team members across distributed teams.

Key Responsibilities

API Product Strategy & Roadmap

·        Perform use-case discovery and consolidation with multiple stakeholder groups; assess business value hypotheses and prioritize the backlog.

·        Define product specification including functional scope, non-functional requirements (performance, availability, scalability), and delivery plan.

·        Plan launch and adoption strategy: communication plan, onboarding approach, and enablement materials for consumers.

API Design, Governance & Developer Experience

·        Design and review APIs and upgrades to comply with enterprise standards; ensure clear naming, vocabulary alignment, and consistent patterns.

·        Author and maintain API contracts and documentation (developer portal/catalog); create use-case driven tutorials, examples, and reference guides.

·        Validate designs with guidelines and stakeholders using mocking/prototyping where applicable; ensure implementation matches the approved contract.

·        Define access models, authentication/authorization, privacy controls, and threat mitigations aligned to OWASP API security risks.

Delivery, Platform Enablement & Operations

·        Coordinate delivery across squads; remove blockers and quickly resolve requirement gaps and design discrepancies.

·        Configure and operate API management capabilities (quotas, rate limits, access tiers) in partnership with platform engineering; automate via pipelines.

·        Monitor production usage and performance; investigate unexpected usage patterns and drive improvements in contract, docs, or implementation.

·        Plan and execute API evolution: versioning strategy, migration support, dual-run/testing windows, and transition monitoring.

·        Plan endpoint/API retirement: deprecation notices, timelines, migration paths, and stakeholder communications.

What You Bring

·        4–8+ years of experience in API management / integration, with proven ownership of API products (strategy through operations).

·        Strong API design and contract skills: OpenAPI (Swagger), AsyncAPI; familiarity with REST, GraphQL, gRPC, and event-driven patterns.

·        Hands-on experience in enterprise API governance, documentation, security/compliance, API operations, and performance optimization.

·        Experience building/maintaining an API catalog/developer portal and improving developer experience (documentation, examples, onboarding).

·        Solid understanding of microservices architecture and integration patterns; ability to translate business processes into reusable APIs.

·        Experience with integration of packaged enterprise systems (e.g., SAP ERP/S/4, Salesforce) and modern iPaaS/integration platforms (e.g., SnapLogic).

·        Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills; comfort collaborating with developers on contract testing and CI/CD automation.

·        Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and workshop facilitation skills; ability to influence outcomes across distributed teams.

·        Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science/IT (or equivalent practical experience).

Nice to Have

·        Experience defining and measuring API KPIs across adoption, reliability, security/compliance, and developer satisfaction.

·        Experience with APIOps (Git-based workflows, contract testing, policy-as-code) and API lifecycle tooling.

·        Scripting/programming experience for automation (e.g., Python, JavaScript/TypeScript).

Working Model

You will work with global teams to support Siemens Energy internal and external customers and help scale API adoption across multiple business areas.
