A Snapshot of Your Day 

As the Lead of the Material Application Group in Large Gas Turbine Engineering you will disciplinarily and technically manage a team of currently nine highly skilled Materials Engineers. You will collaborate with the Head of Materials Department. You will be responsible for coordination of the activities related to development, coating, and service-aspects of materials, including third-party projects, failure analysis and root cause analyses, testing/validation, fleet support, manufacturing support, implementing new components and customer order engineering support within complete network (gas turbines, steam turbines, decarbonization, etc.). You will participate in the creation of materials roadmaps and initiate and implement R&D projects. Your role includes fostering the professional growth of the team members with the goal of achieving the highest levels of expertise.

How You’ll Make an Impact 
  • Coordination of all activities related to the application of materials, including material development, environmental impact on materials, protective coatings, manufacturing methods, welding, failure analyses, and root cause analyses
  • Management of work allocation within the Materials Application Group and related areas
  • Responsibility for the Group's performance, including identification of resource needs
  • Development and maintenance of the group strategy and materials roadmaps, including initiation and execution of material development projects
  • Development, motivation, coaching, training, advising, and mentoring of group members
  • Function as contact person for internal customers from Design, Frame, Manufacturing, and Supply Management in Gas Turbines, Steam Turbines, and areas working on decarbonization

What You Bring
  • PhD or University degree in mechanical engineering, material science, physics, or another suitable field
  • Long-standing professional experience 
  • Deep knowledge of materials engineering
  • Deep business understanding and passion to enable business transactions and to inspire change in a complex environment
  • Expertise in dealing with highly qualified personnel
  • Excellent language skills in verbal and written German and English, skills in further languages are a plus

Zero or low emission power generation and all gas turbines under one roof, steam turbines and generators. Decarbonization opportunities through service offerings, modernization, and digitalization of the fleet.
