A Snapshot of Your Day 
In this site-based Operational Engineer role, you will perform primary commissioning, installation, and maintenance activities on high voltage (HV) switchgear, primarily Siemens Energy AIS Circuit Breakers (132-400 kV), across various customer substation sites throughout the UK. You will ensure all tasks meet the highest safety and quality standards while representing SE Transmission Service professionally. Additionally, you will support and collaborate with other teams within SE Transmission Services as needed, with access to our offices in Newcastle and Leeds when required.

How You’ll Make an Impact
  • Complete on-site commissioning of Siemens Energy AIS Circuit Breakers (132-400 kV), including function tests, timing tests, and CT analysis.
  • Supervise the installation of Siemens Energy AIS Circuit Breakers according to manufacturer specifications.
  • Perform planned and reactive maintenance activities on HV switchgear.
  • Hold a site Safety Document/Permit for Work and ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental policies.
  • Document test results, produce site work reports, and create RAMS for work activities.
  • Liaise with the project manager to report difficulties and assist other teams within SE Transmission Services, such as Transformers and GIS.
  • Participate in training and development to maintain competency in product knowledge, HSE training, and supervisory skills.

What You Bring
  • Previous experience in HV substations, completing commissioning, installation, and maintenance activities or in a similar industry.
  • Demonstrated competency and knowledge of electrical schematic diagrams.
  • HNC in Electrical and Electronic Engineering or relevant experience.
  • Valid driving license.
  • Authorized to install and commission Siemens AIS equipment.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team across HV substation sites in the UK.
  • Experience liaising with customers and leading a working party.
  • Held Site Safety Documents/Permits for Work and knowledgeable in SF6 gas handling.
