A Snapshot of Your Day

Perform Materials testing / evaluation, failure analysis and support R&D materials engineering projects and suppliers while maintaining Siemens Energy Zero Harm culture

How You’ll Make an Impact

The primarily focus of this position is on the evaluation of materials in new and service run GT components. Typical responsibilities include,

  • Investigation of Siemens service component condition through visual and non-visual methods and failure/Fracture surface characterization identifying the locations and fracture modes.
  • Microstructural characterization (optical, SEM, EDS/WDS, EBSD, etc.).
  • Chemical analysis practices and requirements with characterization of material systems for high performance applications (superalloys, high temperature metallic and ceramic coatings, intermetallic, stainless steel)
  • Perform and participate in failure analysis activities while maintaining communication with internal and external customers while writing of internal and external technical reports, presentations, purchase specifications, and process specifications with the ability to define and lead project schedule and budget
  • Sound knowledge of welding and joining conventional methods including required characterization is preferred.
  • Support of product qualification, procurement and material substitution and adhering to Siemens Energy Zero Harm principal is embedded in day-to-day responsibilities

What You Bring

  • BS in Materials and Metallurgical Engineering. Advanced degree is a plus with a min. 5 years’ (preferably more than 5 years) of related successful experience, or equivalent combination of education and related experience is a plus.
  • Understanding of failure analysis of parts made of superalloy and steel materials is considered an excellent asset! As well as knowledge of Materials and Metallurgy of steels superalloys and coatings and their chemistry, microstructure, heat treatments and service degradation modes
  • Knowledge of mechanical, physical, and environmental testing; materials data analysis
  • Work experience in a manufacturing / lab environment is preferred.
  • Understanding of Gas Turbine coatings is preferred.
  • Ability to work in a team environment, as required and demonstrated ability to develop and convey thoughts clearly & concisely through both oral & written communication with people throughout the Service & Manufacturing environment.
