Responsible for the control systems technical scope for rotating equipment packages.
What You Bring
- 8-10 experience in an engineering environment for control systems related to compressors and other rotating equipment. Those with more experience may be considered for a more senior level
- Familiarity with control system philosophies and detailed control system design and experience with design of gas turbine generator trains, gas turbine compression trains, or electric motor compression trains (preferred).
- Experience with Engineering/PLM software (such as Teamcenter and/or Jira), Control Systems Programming software (such as PCS7 and Allen-Bradley control systems), and experience with SAP (preferred).
- Knowledge about redundancy in PLC architecture
- Self-taught, ability to read technical manuals, understand them and implement when writing software
- HMI troubleshooting experience
- Knowledge of industrial communication protocols including OPC, Modbus, Ethernet, Profibus, etc.
- Ability to read related equipment and process P&IDs and electrical schematics
- Hands-on hardware solving and software debugging skills
- Software engineers may work under pressure, to tight deadlines and within budget
- Creative problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
- Strong team working skills
- Effective communication skills both verbal and written, both 1-1 and group situations
- A high level of attention to detail
- An understanding of, and ability to work with, high-level computer technology
- Adaptable to change, able to switch between different control systems platforms on different projects
- PLC: Allen-Bradley ControlLogix, Siemens TIA and PCS7
- HMI: DR-HMI, Wonderware, WinCC, Factory Talk View ME and SE
How You’ll Make an Impact
The specific responsibilities assigned to the position (but not limited to) are:
- Responsible for the control systems technical scope for rotating equipment packages.
- Incorporates Siemens Energy design standards and guidelines and adapts the assigned scope to meet project-specific requirements due to Customer Specifications and Regional / Statutory Requirements for the Installation location.
- Represents the assigned systems in HAZOP and SIL studies.
- Responsible for timely delivery of package design documents to partners and within budget.
- Provides occasional support to the Front-End Engineering network, by reviewing and providing comments and exceptions to client specifications, identifying deviations from standards, and estimating commercial impacts if compliance is required.
- Provide technical support to internal and external packagers.
- Software design and development for rotating equipment control system applications based on given requirements and specifications, for existing equipment (modifications/upgrades).
- Machine control algorithms and implementation on various PLC based systems, based on operation and controls specifications.
- Duties will include generation of PLC Code, HMI applications, defining Modbus, OPC or DCS interfaces, configuration of Bently Nevada or other Vibration Monitoring Systems, technical notes, FAT and SAT procedures and Commissioning support as required.
- 5% travel/year expected.
- 5% availability outside regular work hours, to support customer phone or remote meetings, internal or factory acceptance tests.
- Responsible for participating in the Handover to Software meeting, internal testing, and Factory Acceptance Testing.
- Support the test team with system troubleshooting, including PLC, HMI, and communication networks.
