A Snapshot of Your Day

Analyze vulnerabilities and patch requirements for systems used in critical energy infrastructure but also evaluate the impact on industrial automation assets and OT devices such as PLCs, industrial PCs, communication interfaces, and other control-system components. You assess operational risk, plan validation activities in a representative test environment, and support secure implementation at customer sites with minimal downtime. In parallel, you advise internal and external stakeholders on both IT security and industrial automation/operability aspects, ensuring maintainability, recoverability, and safe operation of installed systems.

How You’ll Make an Impact 


  • Design and implement secure, future-proof IT/OT solutions for customer systems with strong consideration for industrial automation architectures and operational continuity. 
  • Create and execute test procedures for patch management, backups, rollback scenarios, and recovery validation across both IT infrastructure and OT/automation components. 
  • Set up and operate representative test environments that simulate real production/control systems, including PLCs, HMIs, communication interfaces, and connected field devices. 
  • Perform vulnerability and impact analysis not only from a IT security perspective, but also from an automation reliability and process availability perspective. 
  • Support installation and validation of security updates and technical changes on customer systems, including automation asset checks, device compatibility, functional verification, and troubleshooting after deployment. 
  • Develop and maintain backup and disaster recovery concepts for OT assets such as PLCs, and automation-related configurations. 
  • Troubleshoot 2nd and 3rd level incidents involving both IT security controls and industrial automation devices / control system behavior. 
  • Create technical documentation covering patch status, vulnerability impact, automation asset inventories, backup/restore procedures, and site-specific implementation constraints. 
  • Advise customers and internal stakeholders on OT device lifecycle, maintainability, field interventions, and safe implementation windows in critical energy environments. 

What You Bring
  • Degree in Automation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial IT, Mechatronics, Computer Science, Network/Communication Technology, or IT Security, or equivalent practical experience in industrial environments. 
  • Professional experience in industrial automation / OT engineering, ideally in critical infrastructure, energy, manufacturing, or process industries. 
  • Knowledge of Windows Server, Active Directory, WSUS, virtualization, security update management, and vulnerability analysis.
  • Ability to assess security risks, prepare rollback strategies, document findings, and support secure customer implementations.
  • Hands-on experience with PLCs and industrial control systems, ideally including Siemens Step7 / TIA Portal and/or Beckhoff TwinCAT; ability to diagnose faults, review logic, support controlled program modifications, and validate behavior after changes.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills in live operational environments, with the ability to balance cybersecurity, uptime, recoverability, and process safety. 
  • Experience creating and maintaining structured backups, recovery procedures, and rollback concepts for industrial automation assets. 
  • Familiarity with industrial cybersecurity standards and secure engineering practices in OT environments such as IEC 62443, NERC-CIP, or similar frameworks is highly desirable.
  • Customer-oriented mindset, ability to work across teams, and willingness to solve technical problems pragmatically.
  • Willingness to travel internationally and support customer-site execution across Europe.
  • Good English skills; German is a plus.
