A Snapshot of Your Day

As Expert in Power Electronics Hardware Engineering, you will lead the design and development of cutting-edge converter hardware for Modular Multilevel Converters (MMC). Your work will directly contribute to the realization of high-efficiency, high-reliability systems for HVDC transmission, grid integration, and industrial applications.

You will collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to define architectures, validate concepts, and drive innovation from research to product deployment.

How You’ll Make an Impact

  • Architect and lead the development of high-voltage, high-power converter hardware platforms, with a focus on MMC topologies.
  • Define and optimize component selection, layout, and integration strategies for power semiconductors, gate drivers, protection circuits, and auxiliary systems.
  • Collaborate with control and modulation experts to ensure seamless hardware-software co-design and system-level performance.
  • Conduct advanced simulations and modeling (e.g., thermal, electromagnetic, switching behavior) to validate design robustness and compliance.
  • Guide prototype development, lab testing, and commissioning activities, ensuring alignment with safety and quality standards.
  • Contribute to R&D roadmaps, patent filings, and technical publications to position the organization as a leader in power electronics.

What You Bring

  • University Degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in converter hardware development, ideally in HVDC, FACTS, or industrial drives.
  • Deep knowledge of power semiconductor technologies (IGBT, SiC, GaN), insulation coordination, and converter protection strategies.
  • Proficiency in simulation and design tools (e.g., PLECS, MATLAB/Simulink, LTspice, Altium).
  • Experience with automated test frameworks and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) environments is a plus.
  • Strong analytical thinking, structured problem-solving, and a proactive approach.
  • Fluent in English; German language skills at C1 level are appreciated for fluent communication in technical environments.
