A Snapshot of Your Day

Power Diagnostics® Services Performance Monitoring Engineer will review daily the results generated from our monitoring infrastructure and digital twin to proactively investigate / diagnose performance issues that can impact reliability and capability for their assigned power plants and communicate recommendations with support from engineering as necessary to our customers. Performance Engineers are also responsible for providing technical support in response to inquiries from our customers regarding performance issues. 

How You’ll Make an Impact

  • Monitoring the service continuous performance analysis programs to evaluate power plant operation and equipment condition.
  • Work with existing digital twins to perform off-design evaluations
  • Documenting and reporting observations to customers, providing recommendations to address detected findings
  • Improve and update existing tools and processes i.e. proposing diagnostics rules for the improvement of the automatic abnormal operations alerts
  • Support the development of new monitoring software tools
  • Perform and evaluate combustion turbine and combined cycle performance tests
  • Provide estimated performance data for both internal and external customers
  • Close collaboration with our service and engineering organizations for performance enhancements

What You Bring
  • BS/BA in Mechanical Engineering, or related advanced degree, where required, or equivalent combination of education and experience (Advanced degree may be substituted for experience, where applicable) with knowledge of thermodynamics and power plant process / control theory is required, particularly as relates to Brayton, Rankine, and Combined Cycle thermodynamics.
  • 8+ years of successful experience in power plant operations and successful demonstration of responsibilities and knowledge as presented above
  • Proficient knowledge and experience with operations of Gas Turbines, Steam Turbines, and Generators in power generation applications
  • Understanding of software/hardware engineering on Siemens Energy T3000 platforms, Emerson Ovation/WDPF, or equivalent DCS-based control systems
  • Read, follow, and understand instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), Heat Balance diagrams, component design data sheets and electrical schematics.
  • Familiar with the ASME and international test codes, PTC-4, PTC-4.4, PTC-6, PTC-19, PTC-22, PTC-46, ISO-2314, VDI-2048
  • Familiar with various Siemens performance and property calculation tools (Krawal, Dyntyp, KreisPr, Newgas) or similar calculation tools (EtaPro, GateCycle, PEPSE)
  • Familiarity with Sensor Technology (TC, RTD, LVDT)
  • Excellent analytic and troubleshooting capabilities and hands-on experience in problem-solving
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are required as frequent communication with external customers is expected
  • Fluency in English, both orally and written
