A Snapshot of Your Day

The development and implementation of the Radiation Safety Protection Program is the responsibility of the Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) as designated in the North Carolina Radioactive Materials License and 10A NCAC 15. This includes the receipt and shipment of radioactive materials. When licensed activities are being performed on steam turbine components being sent in for repair from nuclear facilities, Radiation Protection Technicians will assist the Health Physicist/ RSO in supporting the Siemens Energy, Inc. (SEI), Charlotte Campus personnel in the implementation of the Radiation Protection Program.

How You’ll Make an Impact

You are a person who works in the area of environmental health engineering that deals with the protection of the individual and population groups against the harmful effects of ionizing and non-ionizing radiation. The Health Physicist is responsible for the safety aspects in the design of processes, equipment, and facilities using radiation sources, so that radiation exposure to personnel will be minimized, and will at all times be within acceptable limits. You will be the one who has the knowledge and responsibility to apply appropriate radiation protection rules.

What You Bring

The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills, the ability to evaluate options and make decisions, work as a teammate, and give toward team goals.

  • Minimum of five years of experience in a Health Physicist role focused on radiation safety; certification as a Radiation Officer preferred.
  • Strong preference for candidates with experience in the power generation industry, particularly in fossil and nuclear power generation operations.
  • At least three years of experience with ISO 9001, 14001, and 45001, with a proven record to lead Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) initiatives.
  • Collaborative skills required to work across various organizational fields, including operations, maintenance, and human resources.
  • Knowledge of OSHA, Worker’s Compensation, EPA, NFPA, FM Global, and DOT regulations is critical, along with familiarity in root cause assessments and hazardous waste management.
  • A BS degree in a technical field is required; a master’s degree in Engineering is a plus. Certifications in radiation safety and related areas must be acquired.

About the Team

Charlotte’s Steam Turbine Repair group services a large sector of steam turbine equipment from power plants, both combined cycle and nuclear applications, as well as from various industrial steam applications within industry. Within the Charlotte campus, the Steam Repair group has various dedicated areas to service the different component types, i.e.: rotors, stationary casings, valves, steam glands, servos and turbine assemblies. This role is aligned to support the repair group with all aspects of the steam repair process from component receipt, inspections, the repair cycle and final shipments to the end customer. The role will also be aligned with and supported by the internal EHS team for regulatory and compliance requirements.
