Electrical Design Engineer – Power Transformers
A Snapshot of Your Day
The Electrical Design Engineer will be responsible for preparing electrical design of Power transformers as well as achieve design innovations and the optimization of the end products in compliance to Siemens Energy design rules, quality standards, cost position and time schedule. Candidate will be responsible for Electrical Design (Calculations) for order execution (detailed design) as well as for offer calculations/preparation of Power Transformers at Siemens Energy Transformers Repair Factory at Charlotte, North Carolina, USA.
How You’ll Make an Impact
- Perform Electrical Calculations for Power transformers and prepare Electrical design documents.
- Design the parameters & dimensions of active part of transformer to meet the customer specifications like losses, impedances, noise levels, Short Circuit forces, temperature limits, loading capabilities etc. by performing analysis on High voltage Transients, dielectric, Magnetic, Short Circuit forces, temperature, noise level etc.
- Understand customer specifications, project requirements, guaranteed technical particulars, prepare design review documents, technical reports, and justifications for the customers.
- Collaborate with other departments like sales, mechanical design, manufacturing, Quality, testing & service departments on technical topics related to electrical design.
- Prepare Technical Specifications for ordering of components like Tap changer, Bushings, current transformers, Winding conductors, & Winding assembly insulation components and various accessories.
- Estimate quantities for offers/tenders, prepare user documentation for offers & have technical discussions with customers at offer and order execution stages.
- Collaborate with other Siemens Energy transformer factories for further product enhancements.
- Effectively communicate among multi-functional teams and participate in various internal and external technical forums.
- Extend support for the development of global design rules & R&D efforts on the need basis.
What You Bring
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in electrical engineering
- Five or more years of working experience as a design engineer in the field of Power Transformers and performing calculations using transformer design software tools. Candidates with more experience can be considered for a higher level or vice-versa.
- Strong conceptual knowledge and working experience of calculations and designing of transformers.
- Familiar with the American & international standards (eg. IEEE, ANSI, IEC) related to transformers, transformer components, and materials.
- Familiar with 2D CAD (eg. AUTOCAD) software. Experience in 2D/3D Electro-magnetic simulation and 2D/3D Electrostatic analysis is an added advantage.
- Detailed knowledge of materials and components like core grades, winding copper (PICC, CTC etc.), winding assembly insulation parts like barriers, angle rings/caps, oil guide washers, snouts, spacers, supports, tap changers, bushings, transformer accessories and sensors.
- Detailed knowledge of various types of core construction, winding types like disc, helical, multi-start, multi-layer etc. and design of winding assembly insulation components
- Excellent written and verbal communication in English is necessary.
- Self-motivated to produce high quality results within the time allocated, with limited supervision.
- Good experience of working with Global Engineering teams in project execution
- Effective co-ordination with manufacturing, suppliers, and customer
- Preferred experience with SAP.
- If not local to Charlotte, NC the candidate must be willing to relocate to the Charlotte-NC area.
