A Snapshot of Your Day

We are looking for a controls and protection specialist in our team to provide critical technical expertise for large-scale energy projects in Australia.

The position is essential for executing onsite commissioning in Australia and participating in Integrated Factory Acceptance Tests (iFATs) overseas, ensuring successful project delivery.

To meet these objectives, the role is structured around three core areas: leading onsite commissioning and system integration, participating in factory acceptance testing and technical preparation, and managing technical project coordination and documentation. This approach ensures end-to-end technical ownership from the factory to the final site handover.

Given the focus on specialized grid technology, the ideal candidate will be a subject matter expert in control and protection systems with extensive hands-on commissioning experience.

This Specialist will operate with limited oversight, managing complex technical challenges and guiding the project team to meet quality and timeline standards.

How You’ll Make an Impact

  • 50% Onsite Commissioning & System Integration
    • Lead and execute all onsite commissioning activities for control and protection systems on assigned projects in Australia / APAC
    • Conduct system integration tests to ensure seamless operation between different components and adherence to Australian grid codes.
    • Perform complex troubleshooting and diagnostics on control, automation and protection systems, relays, IEDs, and substation automation systems and auxiliary equipment to resolve functional issues.
    • Manage the final site acceptance and integration testing (SAT/SIT) process with the client and ensure a successful handover of the commissioned system.
    • Willingness for international travels and long stay onsite over a long duration is mandatory
  • 30% Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) & Technical Preparation
    • Serve as a core team member during Integrated Factory Acceptance Tests (iFATs) in our international locations (e.g. Europe) validating system functionality before shipment.
    • Develop, review, and execute test plans and procedures for control and protection cubicles and systems.
    • Identify, document, and facilitate the resolution of technical non-conformities during the factory testing phase to mitigate project risks and onsite delays.
  • 20% Technical Project Coordination & Reporting
    • Provide subject matter expertise and technical guidance to the project management team, clients, and other stakeholders.
    • Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation, including test reports, commissioning logs, and as-built drawings.
    • Monitor and report on commissioning progress against the project schedule, highlighting risks and proposing mitigation strategies.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor's / Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation and Controls or a related technical discipline.
  • Significant experience (typically 8+ years) in the commissioning of control and protection systems is mandatory (e.g., I&C, DCS, substations, FACTS, HVDC). Knowhow in Omnivise T3000 is desirable
  • Demonstrated experience with onsite commissioning, system integration, and factory acceptance testing on large-scale energy projects.
  • General understanding of Primary & Secondary Design / Engineering is a plus
  • PR / Valid Visa / Full working rights for Australia. Driving Licence Class C (Car)
  • Technical expertise (Control & Protection Systems, Scada, Substation Automation Systems (IEC 61850), FACTS/HVDC Technology, Electrical Schematics Interpretation, iFATs Simulation System and Testing)
