A Snapshot of Your Day


As a Commercial Sales Manager within our Grid Technologies Substations business in Newcastle upon Tyne, you’ll sit at the heart of the sales and tendering process. Working closely with Sales and Tendering colleagues, you’ll manage all commercial and financial topics throughout the full bid lifecycle.

Your day will involve analysing contracts, costs, margins, cash flow, and risk, preparing commercial offers, and supporting negotiations with customers. You’ll collaborate with internal stakeholders across finance, sales, legal, and project teams, while also engaging externally with customers and partners. From bid strategy through to handover for project execution, you’ll ensure commercial robustness, compliance, and value creation at every stage.


How You’ll Make an Impact


  • Own all financial and commercial activities during project acquisition, including contract analysis, margin and cost modelling, cash flow projections, securities, currency and hedging, bonds, payment terms, credit checks, and compliance

  • Support the creation and implementation of the commercial offer strategy for each bid

  • Define the appropriate business model in line with customer, business, and tax regulations

  • Identify, analyse, and manage commercial risks and opportunities (FX, inflation, supply chain, securities, etc.), presenting these clearly to senior management as part of bid approvals

  • Prepare, present, and secure approvals through the commercial sales and bid quality gate process

  • Lead or support negotiations of commercial customer terms and conditions and consortium agreements within defined guidelines

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, partners, and internal stakeholders

  • Ensure a complete and timely handover to project execution to enable accurate order booking and smooth project start-up

  • Drive continuous improvement by optimising sales and bid processes based on lessons learned

  • Actively challenge existing ways of working, helping to improve, simplify, and digitalise commercial processe 



What You Bring


  • Strong communication and negotiation skills, with the confidence to engage internal and external stakeholders

  • Proven experience commercially managing customer bids in a project-based environment

  • Familiarity with standard forms of contract such as NEC, MF1, and FIDIC

  • Experience assessing and managing commercial and financial risks and presenting these to senior management

  • Background working within a finance and/or commercial team on major projects

  • A collaborative, cooperative working style and a passion for teamwork

  • Enthusiasm for personal development and supporting the growth of others

  • Experience working on international projects and with intercultural teams
