A Snapshot of Your Day

Special offer for graduates:

Are you eager to actively contribute to the energy transition and immerse yourself in a thriving market environment where innovation and growth intersect? Do you want to engage in projects that deliver the key technology to transmit electricity from where it’s generated to where it's needed, and even connect countries? If so, are you ready to step into the dynamic world of Power Transmission with Siemens Energy? We are seeking passionate individuals to join our engineering teams in this 12-month upskilling program. The program includes learning cycles, networking events, classroom and virtual training, as well as on-the-job training to familiarize our new team members with the necessary technical skills in the field of HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current) & FACTS (Flexible AC Transmission System). Personal and professional development are also focal points of this engaging program, along with the opportunity to visit international sites.

For our team of technical experts working on HVDC control and protection systems, we are looking for a motivated engineer (f/m/d) for the DC protection and measurement system.

Measurement system: we ensure among other things that all measured values in the HVDC are collected, preprocessed, and sent according to the requirements of the receivers – (converter) control, regulation, DC protection.

DC protection system: the base for the DC protection concept of the whole HVDC system is designed during our investigations and parametrizations. We create a technical optimal solution for the challenges of the energy transition for our customers. We parametrize the DC protection functions with analytical and simulative methods, extensive protection coordination studies, we adapt the software and integrate our solution in the hardware of our systems in the testing area. The mentioned points are part of your work as well as the collaboration and coordination with other teams to achieve the best solution for our customer.

We work in the analysis and solution of complex system engineering problems, ensuring system stability and security, and in the implementation of new features and protection strategies as needed. Furthermore, there is the opportunity to promote cross-team cooperation within the HVDC area through trainings, workshops, continuous improvement, or digitalization topics and to help to shape it by yourself. In addition, we help you if you have the wish to participate in the commissioning of your project.

Are you looking for starting your career in the energy technology after graduation? Are you motivated to put your knowledge into practice? We are looking forward to receiving your job application!

How You’ll Make an Impact
  • Collaboration and coordination with other teams of the HVDC area (for example system design, studies, control) for the multifunctional optimization and development of complex HVDC overall systems
  • Support in research and development topics for HVDC projects
  • Performing functional and performance tests: model-based testing (MBT) in SIMULINK and hardware in the loop (HiL) with real-time simulation systems (RTDS)
  • Contribution to the programming of the software for DC protection and measurement systems in Matlab/Simulink
  • Performance of DC protection coordination studies for HVDC systems, including the determination of DC protection settings and preparation of the study documentation
  • Support in the creation of the DC protection concepts for self-guided multilevel converters with half-bridge modules for different applications
  • Responsibility from the offer over the engineering phase, performance, and customer acceptance tests as well as support during the plant commissioning from Erlangen to handover the system to the customer worldwide

What You Bring
  • Welcome are experienced persons in the area of high voltage transmission as well as university graduates
  • Communication ability and ability to work in a team for the outcome-oriented and creative development of our projects and focusing on the qualitative high performance of our solutions
  • Very good German and English knowledge
  • Knowledge in MATLAB/SIMULINK, ideally in combination with real-time and embedded software, as well as modelling and simulation with PSCAD/EMTDC
  • Experience in software project planning and testing of SRS-systems (control, regulation and system dynamics) are welcome
  • Initial experience in the areas of control and protection, especially in the creation of DC protection concepts for HVDC, FACTS or large converter applications are advantageous
  • Willingness to learn new things, independency and proactivity, outcome-oriented action
  • University degree (master) in electrical engineering, ideally in the area of power electronics, high voltage, energy transmission systems in combination with a PhD
