A Snapshot of Your Day

Join our dynamic team in Charlotte, where as a Sr. Metallurgist you will provide essential Materials Engineering support for large turbine generators in the power utility market. Imagine collaborating with a global network of design, manufacturing, and service operations, focusing on innovative materials concepts and processes. You will engage in technical assignments that include supply chain management, failure analysis, and the qualification of new materials and suppliers. Your expertise will be vital in supporting the entire life cycle of metallic materials and components, ensuring the highest standards in our turbine-generator product line.

How You’ll Make an Impact

  • Develop and implement innovative materials concepts for new part manufacturing and service repairs.
  • Perform data analysis on material properties to enhance product performance.
  • Write and upgrade specifications for materials and related processes, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
  • Collaborate with component designers to select appropriate materials for electrical, magnetic, and structural applications.
  • Conduct failure analyses and root cause investigations to drive continuous improvement in materials and processes.

What You Bring

  • A strong foundation in Materials Engineering, particularly in physical metallurgy, with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience. Candidates with more experience can be considered for a higher level or vice-versa.
  • Expertise in analyzing structural and stainless steels, large forgings, and metals joining techniques.
  • A Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Materials Engineering with a focus on metallurgy.
  • Proven project management skills and a passion for continuous improvement in products and processes.
  • Strong expertise in Fractography and analyze micro-structures of metals.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, along with the ability to analyze data optimally.
  • Willing to travel (approximately 20%).
  • Applicants must be legally authorized for employment in the United States without need for current or future employer-sponsored work authorization. Siemens Energy employees with current visa sponsorship may be eligible for internal transfers.

About the Team

Our Gas Services division offers Low-emission power generation through service and decarbonization. Zero or low emission power generation and all gas turbines under one roof, steam turbines and generators. Decarbonization opportunities through service offerings, modernization, and digitalization of the fleet.
