Project Controls Lead

The position will coordinate all aspects of Project Controls, ensuring a consistent, professional project controls setup on small to large and complex projects/programs in accordance with industry-accepted best practices.  This role reports to the Global Project Management Organization and act in partnership with the local site project managers. Will play a key role in defining the overall project execution delivery model and will proactively develop and implement standard methodologies within the organization. Also work closely with the local Commercial Project Management team, to help identify and analyze potential project impacts driven by those items with the Project Controls purview.

The successful candidate must have a deep appreciation for project controls processes and toolsets and ability to identify, develop, and drive improvements. The ability to effectively lead and work under pressure is a must.

Tactically, this position involves working with relevant project partners to implement world-class project controls tools, methodologies, and philosophies.  As this is a hands-on role, ownership traits and the ability to manage multiple deliverables and deadlines is must. The main areas of responsibility would include:

  • ·         Overall Project Schedule Management (Critical Path Scheduling)
  • ·         Progress measurement and reporting (including earned value concepts and S-Curves)
  • ·         Resource management
  • ·         Support managing and identifying project risks & opportunities.
  • ·         Change management concepts (including documenting of delay claims)
  • ·         Support internal / external project reviews and other reporting requirements.
  • ·         Coaching and Mentoring of Project Teams as it relates to Project Controls Concepts

This position will require travel up to 10% of the time.

How You Will Make an Impact

  • This includes but is not limited to developing, monitoring, and maintaining relevant schedules.
  • Candidate will be responsible for all internal and external schedule reporting, including development, tracking and reporting of required KPIs. As the situations warrant, candidate will work with various global project teams to identify, develop, and implement corrective action / recovery plans.
  • : Prepare and maintain progress S-curves, manpower histograms, and overall percent complete / earned value as required.
  • To include, but not limited to, project status; schedule updates and issues; contract or claims issues, etc.
  • Support project audits are required.
  • : Assist project team in producing, managing and tracking relevant contractual deliverables (i.e. monthly reports; percent complete metrics; S-Cuves, etc.)
  • Incorporate said changes into the project plan and articulate the overall schedule impact of said changes. Work with CPM to develop cost value of each change.
  • Assist the Contract and Claims Manager by assessing and documenting the impact of late deliverables, materials, etc. from customers, vendors, internal sub-suppliers, etc. Leverage use of factual historic Project Controls data as support to claim management process. Provide feedback and mentorship on overall claim management strategies.
  • Proactively identify potential risks and work with project team in developing and implementing mitigating actions plans. Search for opportunities and assist with developing said opportunities.
  • Coach, develop and assist project management teams in the area of project controls, to ensure compliance to company requirements ant to achieve outstanding results.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in a Business or Engineering field
  • 5+ years relevant working experience, including experience in the large, Global oil and gas projects, and working with EPCs.
  • Extensive knowledge of project controls concepts, practices, and procedures
  • Solid understanding of Earned Value Management Techniques
  • Primavera P6 and/or Microsoft Projects experience, specifically the ability to develop, maintain, and update detailed schedules; ensuring adherence to quality standards; creating reports; and providing detailed and accurate analysis, to include possible recovery actions as needed.
  • ERP experience (i.e. SAP).
  • Must have strong familiarity and capabilities in Excel.

  • Ability to effectively lead and work under pressure.
  • Ability to optimally work in team environment.
  • Knowledge of project controls concepts, practices and procedures, and schedule management tools such as Primavera and/or MS Project
  • Strong communications skills are essential (verbal and written)
  • Be proactive, self-motivated, and flexible.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment, and to work independently as required.
  • Ability to effectively work under pressure.
  • Ability to work constructively with all stakeholders, building both internal and external relationships.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills, including ability to prioritize (80/20) activities for biggest impact.
  • Strong sense of time urgency for critical-path project items, breakthroughs, and key project deliverables
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time.
  • Client relationship management through client interaction, reporting, meetings, presentations (external & internal).
  • Understanding the basics of the Business Systems such as SAP and how it is used in the order capture, order entry, and order execution processes.
  • Experience dealing directly with typical suppliers & customers (EX: Internal Siemens-Energy entities, EPCs and oil & gas OEMs).
