The facility is planned to be built by early 2026 for production commencement. Consequently, the first part of the journey in this role in our Company will involve coordinating the construction, and the implementation of new processes, as well as participating with the development of a high-performance team and coordinating all aspects of the factory setup to prepare for production. In the interim, there may be international travel for training at other Siemens-Energy facilities.

This role is for individual contributor, responsible for preparing mechanical design of Core and Clamping for Power transformers as well as for achieving design innovations and the optimization of the end products in compliance to Siemens Energy design rules, quality standards, cost and time schedule at Siemens Energy Power Transformers Factory at Charlotte, North Carolina, USA.

Your Tasks & Responsibilities are as below:

  • Understand the electrical design output and perform mechanical design, development and analysis of core and clamping assembly.
  • Support the core and clamping manufacturing processes, quality inspections, failure analysis, concessions on tolerances, vendor development and responding queries from suppliers.
  • Use 2D and 3D CAD software to model designs and individual parts to support the generation of 3D models, engineering drawings and prepare bills of material to support ordering of components like core clamps, tie-plates, top and bottom segments, winding supports, step blocks OD cooling parts, steel bandages etc.
  • Prepare core cutting lists for cutting and slitting of cores for individual designs.
  • Learn transformer design rules and use of transformer design calculation tools related to core and clamping.
  • Collaborate on R&D projects for further product improvements.
  • Perform advanced calculations like structural analysis (eg. using ANSYS, CREO simulate)

Requirement for this role:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical engineering
  • 6+ years working experience as a core and clamping or active part design engineer for Power Transformers above 100MVA/220kV
  • Strong conceptual knowledge and working experience in structural steel parts, insulation parts and core grades.
  • Familiar with the American & international standards (eg. IEEE, ANSI, IEC) related to transformer and materials.
  • User of 3D CAD software (eg. CREO/PROe/Inventor), PDM Link or Teamcentre, 2D CAD (eg. AUTOCAD) and software tools to create Bill of materials eg. SAP
  • Detailed knowledge of materials related to core and clamp like structural steel, high tensile steel, GOES, laminated wood, pressboard etc.

Key kills:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication in English is necessary.
  • Self-motivated to produce high quality results within the time allocated, with limited supervision
  • Effective co-ordination with manufacturing and suppliers
  • Experience with SAP is an added advantage.
