A Snapshot of Your Day
As a Mechanical Design Engineer, your responsibilities will include developing mechanical designs for power transformers, promoting design innovations, and optimizing end products in alignment with Siemens Energy’s design guidelines. This position will emphasize both the external design and the redesign of the active components of transformers at the Siemens Energy Power Transformers Service Engineering Hub related to the Transformer Repair Centre Linz.
How You’ll Make an Impact
- Prepare customer documentation, including general outlines, shipping/transport details, and valve schedules, while conducting detailed mechanical design and analysis of transformers and their components.
- Use 2D and 3D CAD software to model assemblies and parts, generating engineering drawings and bills of materials.
- Develop specifications and order components and materials related to mechanical design.
- Understand customer specifications and project requirements, preparing design review documents, technical reports, and justifications.
- Collaborate with various departments, including sales, electrical design, manufacturing, quality, testing, and service, on mechanical design topics.
- Communicate effectively with multi-functional teams, participate in technical forums, and support the development of global design rules and R&D efforts as needed.
What You Bring
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in mechanical engineering, with validated experience of five or more as a mechanical design engineer in the power transformer industry.
- Minimum of five years of experience in transformer mechanical design, including core clamping, leads, tanks, and cooling systems, demonstrating strong conceptual and practical knowledge.
- Proficient in 3D CAD software, PDM software, and 2D CAD tools for creating bills of materials.
- Ability to understand mechanical simulations and familiarity with American and international standards for transformers and their components.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English are essential; proficiency in German is a plus.
- Self-motivated and able to deliver high-quality results on time with minimal direction, experienced in collaborating with global teams and coordinating effectively with manufacturing and suppliers.

At Siemens Energy we offer competitive compensation and additional benefits based on your performance, experience and qualification. Due to the Austrian legal regulations, we are obliged to state the minimum salary for this position. Please note that there is a clear willingness for a higher compensation considering your individual expectations, expertise and skills. The minimum salary for this position in the collective agreement for the electrical and electronics industry is in the amount of € 51.314,34 for a full-time position (38,5 h/week).
