A Snapshot of Your Day
As Chief Blade Engineer, you will provide technical leadership for wind turbine blade design and industrialization for the target market. You will translate customer needs, site conditions, standards, and certification requirements into blade requirements and deliver robust aerodynamic, structural, and materials solutions that meet performance, reliability, cost, and manufacturability targets.
How You’ll Make an Impact
•Lead blade product development from concept through design freeze, prototype build, testing, certification support, and release to serial production.
•Own aerodynamic design and performance definition (AEP, loads, noise) and ensure alignment with turbine system requirements and control strategy.
•Lead blade structural design, analysis, and optimization (static/fatigue, buckling, deflection, aeroelasticity) and define verification and validation plans.
•Define blade materials and manufacturing technology (composites, resin systems, bonding, infusion/prepreg, lightning protection) to achieve cost, quality, and manufacturability targets.
•Own blade requirements and specifications (performance, loads, reliability, serviceability) and ensure requirement traceability through design reviews and release.
•Build and maintain strong connections with the blade ecosystem (key suppliers, design institutes, certification and test agencies) to enable development, qualification, and localization.
•Lead blade industrialization and supplier readiness: define manufacturing processes, tooling strategy, quality gates, and cost-down roadmaps; support localization of parts and processes.
•Plan and execute blade testing and certification activities (materials, coupon/element, static, fatigue) and support certification documentation and audits.
•Lead and mentor the blade engineering team and coordinate cross-functional interfaces (turbine system engineering, manufacturing, quality, procurement, installation, service).
•Drive field issue resolution and continuous improvement by leveraging test results, manufacturing feedback, and fleet performance data to improve blade reliability and serviceability.
What You Bring
•MS/PhD in Aerodynamics, Mechanical/Structural Engineering, Materials/Composite Engineering, Aerospace, or related engineering field required.
•Proven track record of leading wind turbine blade design and delivery from concept through prototype/testing and release to serial production.
•10+ years of experience in wind turbine blade engineering (aerodynamic design, structural design/analysis, materials, manufacturing, or product development).
•Recognized expert in blade design domain with strong understanding of aerodynamics, structural design, and composite material technology.
•Strong connections across the blade ecosystem, including key suppliers, design institutes, and certification & test agencies.
•Previous experience in cross functional and international teams.
•Solid understanding of wind turbine system integration and how blade design impacts loads, controls, drivetrain, and overall turbine performance.
•Experience in technical / engineering support to customers.
•Ability to work and thrive independently and in a team environment.
•Excellent communication (written and verbal) and presentation proficiency.
