A Snapshot of Your Day

The Senior Operations Engineer – Machining is responsible for end to end operational performance of the machining area, ensuring safe, efficient, and on time execution of repair and manufacturing activities for turbine and rotating equipment components.

This role focuses on shop floor execution, resource utilization, production planning support, KPI management, and continuous improvement, while providing sufficient technical oversight to ensure process capability, quality compliance, and manufacturability. The position acts as a key interface between operations, engineering, quality, planning, and sales, translating repair requirements into executable and optimized shop floor activities.

How You’ll Make an Impact

  • Own the daily operational performance of the machining area, including CNC and conventional machines. Ensure safe, stable, and efficient execution of machining activities in line with production plans and customer commitments.
  • Drive adherence to standard work, routing, and work instructions on the shop floor.
  • Support production planning by providing realistic capacity assessments, lead times, and load forecasts. Identify bottlenecks and implement actions to reduce cycle time, waiting time, and rework. Ensure machining readiness for incoming repair scopes (tools, fixtures, programs, manpower).
  • Monitor and actively manage machining KPIs, including Safety, On time delivery (OTD), Productivity & utilization, Rework / scrap. First pass yield. Lead daily/weekly operational reviews and define corrective actions where deviations occur.
  • Ensure adequate skill coverage and competency levels for all machining activities. Support development and maintenance of the competency matrix for machinists and technicians. Identify training needs and support upskilling in coordination with operations and HR.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives (Lean, waste elimination, 5S, standardization). Lead root cause analysis (RCA) for machining related deviations (quality, delivery, safety). Implement sustainable corrective and preventive actions to improve robustness and repeatability.
  • Provide operational technical judgment on machining feasibility, routing, and sequencing. Review machining strategies to ensure manufacturability, cost efficiency, and cycle time optimization.Act as the operational interface to engineering for complex repairs or deviations—without owning detailed design.
  • Ensure machining activities comply with Siemens Energy quality standards, inspection requirements, and OEM specifications. Support internal and external audits related to machining operations. Ensure traceability and correct documentation of machining processes and results.
  • Coordinate closely with Planning & Scheduling, Quality & Inspection, Engineering & PCC, Sales & Project Management. Support accurate and timely repair execution input for customer communication and commercial decisions.
  • Enforce strict compliance with HSE rules and safe machining practices. Proactively identify risks and implement mitigation measures. Promote a strong safety and ownership culture within the machining team.
  • Ensure accurate operational reporting related to delivery status, risks, and constraints. Maintain machining related operational documentation, lessons learned, and best practices.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.7–12 years of experience in machining or manufacturing operations within heavy industry, power generation, or turbomachinery.
  • Proven experience in shop floor operations, production execution, or manufacturing engineering roles. Experience working in a repair service center environment is a strong advantage.
  • Solid understanding of CNC machining processes and shop floor constraints, Machining routings, setups, and inspection interfaces, Capacity planning and production flow. Ability to bridge technical requirements with operational execution.
  • Strong ownership mindset with focus on delivery and accountability. Ability to lead through influence in a cross functional environment. Structured problem solving and decision making skills.
  • Familiarity with quality management systems (ISO, internal OEM standards). Experience supporting audits and compliance activities.
  • Proficient in MS Office and shop floor reporting tools. Experience with ERP / MES systems is an advantage.
