Location - Newcastle

A Snapshot of Your Day
The Senior Operations Engineer shall oversee all operational and maintenance aspects and activities within the GS and GT project LTSA & O&M contracts, supporting the remote operational concept. The role includes the implementation and monitoring of O&M practices for performance, efficiency and safety, ensuring that all applicable processes, procedures and regulatory requirements are fulfilled. This includes facilitating a Safe System of Work, authorisation of personnel to carry out their specific Safety rule roles and ensuring the plants remain compliant with all environmental legislations and permits.

The role shall require a degree of flexibility, covering remote control room and project site activities and locations as determined by the business needs.

Key Roles and Responsibilities.

  • Responsibility and accountability for the promotion of Siemens Energy Zero Harm Culture, being a strong advocate and leading by example to deliver a robust EQS culture. Drives continuous improvement and a positive EHS culture across the projects.
  • Organising and coordinating resources within the O&M team to prioritise and effectively plan operational and maintenance activities which ensure the plant operation is in accordance with the commercial dispatch requirements.
  • The operations and maintenance decision making processes to ensure that an acceptable level of performance and reliability is maintained throughout the project life cycle.
  • Liaising with the O&M Production Manager and other relevant personnel regarding projects, maintenance, outage planning, costing and programming of plant activities.
  • Monitoring and controlling of plant operations to ensure the plant is operated and maintained in compliance with the appropriate Health & Safety and Environmental standards to meet all statutory requirements.  
  • Monitoring and optimisation of plant and equipment to achieve the best possible commercial and technical performance, including identification of opportunities to improve performance and efficiency.
  • Development and implementation of Siemens Energy Asset Care Programme including all associated processes and procedures (Asset Criticality Assessment, Data Engineering and CBM Concepts).
  • Support the establishment and the maintenance of the international management systems according to ISO9001, ISO14001, ISO 45001, ISO 27001 and ISO 55001: 2014 Asset Management.
  • Carry out the duties of Senior Authorised Person, Selected Person and Control Person under the SE O&M Safety Rules. Act as Control Person Safety in cross boundary interfaces with National Grid.
  • Support the production and distribution of O&M KPIs and business objectives.
  • Motivate and encourage the O&M team to promote staff development and develop a highly capable self-sufficient team.
  • Develop and manage the safe systems of work philosophy ensuring the high safety standards are met and maintained. Mentor and authorise personnel to carry out their duties and roles under the project-specific safety rules.
  • Owner of outage management process (planned, unplanned and scheduled), including acting in the role of Outage Co-Ordinator and Senior Authorised Person.
  • Preparedness for dealing with emergency situations including completion of incident reports.
  • Deputise for the Production Manager as and when required.
  • Support and assist the O&M team in other activities, including operational and SAP support within the remote-control room and the project sites, as and when required.

  • O&M Production Manager (Line Manager)
  • Project O&M team - Motivate and encourage team members, provide guidance and support as part of a highly capable O&M team.
  • Onshore and Offshore Management Team – Maintain effective relationships to ensure the integrity of the Siemens Energy O&M contract and business strategies and objectives.
  • Supporting Contract Companies and Partners – Develop and maintain essential relationships to ensure the safe, effective and efficient site support in specialist areas.

Knowledge, Experience and Competencies:
  • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modelling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
  • UK Power Generation and Power Transmission Safety Rules knowledge and experience

(Essential)
  • Practicable Project Management experience
  • Power Generation and Power Transmission operation and maintenance experience
  • Health and Safety knowledge and awareness
  • Self-motivated with ability to effectively prioritize workload
  • Experience of recording and the reporting of accurate data and business critical information.

Qualifications: 
  • Preferably educated to minimum level of HND or an equivalent level of qualification in engineering.
  • Minimum of 8 years operation and maintenance experience, preferably within the Power Generation section.
  • Preferably Leadership Qualification.
  • Health and Safety Qualification (NEBOSH or equivalent).
  • Working knowledge of safe systems of work, Environmental Permit Regulations and H&S legislation.
