Siemens Energy Grid Technologies are recruiting for a Level 6 (BEng) degree apprentice to specialise in the area of High Voltage Cables. This exciting new opportunity represents a new growth period for Siemens Energy Transmission Solutions and offers excellent opportunities to be part of our fantastic apprenticeship programme.

Alongside your full time work, you will be working towards a L6 BEng Product Design and Development Engineer at Newcastle University.

How You’ll Make an Impact

Every project needs to be designed and optimised to ensure it delivers on value, efficiency and footprint, a design engineer knows what needs to be achieved, how it will be achieved, how long it will take and how much it will cost and works with the project operations team to achieve the required outcomes. You will develop these skills through a combination of classroom work and on the job activities at Siemens Energy.

Although not an exhaustive list, below are some of the tasks and responsibilities that you’ll take on as a HV Cables Engineering Apprentice:

• Gain understanding of Autodesk products such as AutoCAD and Revit to aid in the production of cable design packages.
• Assisting with the preparation of drawings and technical documents
• Utilise editing software such as Adobe Acrobat / PDF X-Change for formatting documents.
• Liaise and engage with Colleagues and Clients to build professional relationships.
• Site visits as and when required for further technical development
• Understand of Information Management Systems and maintenance of Master Document Registers and other Document Control requirements throughout project lifecycle.
• Familiar with specifications within HV cabling such as IEC, BS, NGET, ENATS, Cigre.

What You Bring

• 3 A Levels at grade C or above (or equivalent) preferably including Maths and Science.
• GCSE requirement – grade C or above in Maths, English (or equivalent qualifications) and an additional STEM subject at grades C, or 5, or above
• Please note that due to the travel requirements of this role, you will be required to have a full UK driving license.
• Enthusiasm for a career in Renewable Energy project delivery
• Enjoyment of working within a team environment.
• It would be beneficial, although not essential, for applicants to have some relevant industrial experience e.g. summer placements.
• Must be flexible and adaptable.
• Must be a confident communicator and proactive problem solver.
• Competent in use of Microsoft Office software such as MS Word, Excel, Outlook.

About the Team

The Siemens Energy HV Cables Team consists of HV Cable Design Engineers, Project Managers, CAD Technicians, Cable Engineers and Site Supervisors reporting into the HV Cables Operations Manager. We work with the Tendering and Project Management teams securing and delivering schemes in HV Substations, HVDC and Grid Access projects managed out of both Newcastle and Manchester locations. We work closely with our Primary and Civil Engineering teams and broader stakeholders ensuring HV Cable solutions are delivered to specification, on time to the highest safety standards. The projects we deliver are throughout the UK and Ireland and we are an integral part of the business operation.
