A Snapshot of Your Day

As Principal Engineer for Software Engineering & Developer Experience within the Scalable Core team, you are the technical backbone of the Scalable Core platform and engineering ecosystem. You operate at the intersection of architecture, hands-on engineering, and developer experience, ensuring that engineers across Siemens Energy can build, deploy, and operate software efficiently at scale.

You spend your time shaping the technical direction of the platform, driving architecture into execution by breaking it down into actionable implementation plans, and actively contributing to critical parts of the codebase. At the same time, you continuously improve the developer experience (DevEx) by reducing friction, standardizing workflows, and increasing engineering velocity, reducing cognitive load, and improving delivery reliability.

This is a technical leadership role at the intersection of technology, architecture, and innovation — setting the direction for how Siemens Energy builds, scales, and governs intelligent systems across its global ecosystem.

How You’ll Make an Impact

• Spearhead and evolve how software is built, tested, and operated across Siemens Energy — establishing the engineering operating model and technical foundations for a scalable, high-performing organisation
• Lead the design and evolution of the engineering system, including workflows, standards, and platform capabilities that enable consistent, efficient software delivery
• Own and drive the technical backlog — defining, structuring, and prioritising work to ensure teams focus on the highest-impact initiatives and deliver measurable progress
• Drive end-to-end developer experience (DevEx) as a core capability — reducing cognitive load, eliminating friction, and increasing engineering velocity across the lifecycle
• Set technical direction across teams and ensure alignment on scalable architectures, engineering practices, and “golden paths” for development and deployment
• Mentor and influence senior engineers and technical leaders while championing software excellence through architecture reviews, coding standards, and lifecycle governance

What You Bring

• Strong background in software engineering, with extensive experience designing and scaling complex, distributed systems
• Proven track record as a senior technical authority (Principal / Staff+), shaping engineering practices and technical direction across multiple teams or domains
• Deep understanding of developer experience (DevEx) as a system — including workflows, tooling, standards, and organisational interfaces
• Hands-on expertise in backend systems, cloud-native architectures, and modern software engineering practices
• Strong experience driving DevOps, CI/CD, and platform capabilities with measurable impact on engineering productivity
• Strategic, systems-oriented mindset with the ability to influence senior stakeholders and align organisations around a coherent engineering vision

The Scalable Core team drives the foundational technologies and developer platforms that empower scalable and intelligent energy management solutions across Siemens Energy. We build reusable backend services, AI/ML platforms, and lifecycle tools to support cloud, on-prem, and edge deployments.
