A Snapshot of Your Day

The Operations Engineer will be responsible for monitoring, operation and control of the project/s assets on a 24/7 basis (Shift Working). The role requires a suitable level of engineering and technical knowledge with the aim of providing safe and reliable operation of plant and equipment to meet the Client’s operational and commercial requirements.

The role may require a degree of flexibility, covering remote control room and project site activities and locations to support the business needs.

How You’ll Make an Impact 
  • Responsible for monitoring and control of the plant operation on a continuous basis such as plant shutdown and start-up, responding to alarms by taking appropriate the actions in a timely manner, BOA activity, Customer (TNO/DNO/IND/Developers) instructions and daily plant operation. Maintaining and updating the Daily Operational Log.
  • Health, Safety and Environmental compliance, performing all work in compliance with applicable codes, standards, safety and environment.
  • Plant availability, compliance with O&M procedures, work plans and engineering procedures.
  • Execute plant shutdown and start-up procedures as required within the allocated timeframe, ensuring that the plant meets its generating requirements whilst operating in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Adherence to processes and procedures to enable efficient plant operation, including utilisation of technical documentation and drawings.
  • Ensure that the plant meets its generating requirements whilst operating in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Utilize computerized Plant Management System (i.e.) WebBFS/Ultimo/JIRA for Shift Log, Fault Notification, Work Order and Work Plan Module, Parts Requisition.
  • Liaison with customer and external parties for supply and distribution of power and gas.
  • Respond to Customer (TNO/DNO/IND/Developers) and Trader routine and safety instructions.
  • Submission of REMIT, EDL & EDT information to accurately reflect the technical availability and remain in compliance with legislative governance.
  • Carry out Control System logic modifications and implement simulations to ensure plant safety and reliability is maintained working within the guidelines of the company’s IBMS and quality systems.
  • Support and assist with the production of and continuous development of operational excellence strategies and concepts to ensure alignment with Siemens Energy and the client’s business objectives.
  • Support Root Cause Analysis and Failure Mode Effects Analysis processes into site occurrences and incidents as required.
  • Deputise for the Operations Support Engineer in their absence.

What You Bring 
  • Sound practical engineering and technical knowledge including applying principles, techniques, processes and procedures to achieve the safe operation and maintenance of the power station.
  • Power Generation / Heavy Industry and Power Transmission operational experience.
  • Awareness and understanding of Health and Safety practices.
  • Self-motivated with ability to effectively prioritise workload.
  • Advanced Problem-solving skills
  • Good oral, written and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to effectively and efficiently record and report plant relevant, critical information and status.
  • Proficient in the development and adherence to Safe Systems of Work.

Knowledge, Experience and Qualifications: 
  • Preferably educated to minimum level of HNC or an equivalent level of qualification in engineering.
  • Have a detailed working knowledge of power plant principals including plant performance, efficiency and environmental operation.
  • Minimum of 5 years operation and maintenance experience, preferably within the Power Generation industry.
  • Appreciation of H&S management processes
  • Sound knowledge of roles and responsibilities, as defined in the safe systems of work. 
  • Health and Safety qualification (NEBOSH or equivalent).
