Siemens Energy Core Engine R&D is offering an exciting Master Thesis opportunity focused on the mesh-free application of Altair SimSolid for heat transfer and structural analysis of gas turbine combustor components.


How You’ll Make an Impact

  • Conduct a comprehensive capability benchmark study of Altair SimSolid
  • Perform heat transfer analysis to understand thermal distribution and stresses in combustor components
  • Conduct structural analysis to evaluate the mechanical integrity under operational loads
  • Utilize the mesh-free capabilities of Altair SimSolid for rapid design iterations
  • Compare results with traditional FEM methods and experimental data
  • Evaluate computational efficiency, including time to solution and resource utilization
  • Assess usability, documentation, and support of Altair SimSolid
  • Contribute to the advancement of gas turbine technology using cutting-edge simulation tools

What You Bring

  • Proficiency in setting up and solving heat transfer and structural analysis problems
  • Experience in interpreting results and validating models
  • Familiarity with Altair SimSolid or similar mesh-free simulation tools
  • Knowledge of rapid design iteration processes and optimization techniques


About the Team
In our team (Mechanical Integrity of Combustion Systems) we have many talented and highly educated engineers with different backgrounds and responsibilities. We strive to support each other and build a strong technical knowledge within the team. We collaborate closely with the turbine and compressor MI department, and our team includes specialists in the field who are available to provide support.

Our Gas Services division offers Low-emission power generation through service and decarbonization. Zero or low emission power generation and all gas turbines under one roof, steam turbines and generators. Decarbonization opportunities through service offerings, modernization, and digitalization of the fleet.
