A Snapshot of Your Day

This is a leadership role within the Grid Technology team. The successful candidate will be part of a highly motivated and dynamic team of engineers working on project activities related to HVDC applications. You will have full responsibility for the successful execution of engineering Substation HV equipment in HVDC & FACTS substations. You will manage and lead the team in charge of technical solutions design, fulfilling customer specifications and engineering standards, checking and ensuring compliance over the domains, obeying laws and regulations. You will plan and allocate resources and budget engineering activities, committing workforce proficiency and capability to conduct the assignments in time and quality. Teamwork with Bid Managers, Project managers and suppliers in the field of HV Equipment engineering is the key to success.

How You’ll Make an Impact

  • Overall responsibility for complete technical correctness of System Design of Scope of HVDC/FACTS project.
  • Overall Technical responsibility for the preparation of main circuit Parameters and associated power system studies of the special requirements for HVDC Substations.
  • Review the transient outline report and study report for various transient study. Responsibility for preparation of technical parameters of tender documents for high voltage equipment.
  • Lead transient studies, including TOV (Transient Overvoltage), TRV (Transient Recovery Voltage), VSM TOV (Valve sub-module TOV), Dynamic Breaking study report and CCR (Circuit Current Requirement) analysis.
  • Preparation and active participation of technical decisions in arrangement with the project manager and technical project manager
  • Responsible for model development for high-frequency studies and transient studies report.
  • Mentoring/Training of team members on technical topics related to System Design of HVDC/FACTS technology.
  • Preparation and active participation of technical decisions in arrangement with the project manager and technical project manager
  • Identification and evaluation of project-oriented risks and opportunities. Working out suggestions to minimize possible risks, recognizing benefits and opportunities.
  • Team management, achieving targets and KPI, ramp-up activities, calculating and maintain cost for engineering activities, team building, and competency development.
  • Networking across Siemens Energy for bringing projects and work packages for the team.     
  • Strategic and long-term-targeting and planning
  • Expertise in PSCAD/EMTDC, MATLAB/Simulink, Digi Silent, PSSE
  • Technical leadership to enhance HVDC converter station design.
  • Recruitment development and people review for the team
  • Lead the capture, implementation, and validation of project requirements
  • Develop and maintain KPIs for the team
  • Proactive interaction with other engineering departments and regions for product definition

What You Bring

  • Knowledge acquired in 8-15 years in HVDC/FACTS Engineering, overall experience 12-18 years of experience in Substation Engineering
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical engineering or comparable                                   
  • Experience in leading the team in solving challenging technical issues for HVDC/FACTS HV System Design
  • Having technical overview Substation design, power system studies tools, requirement analysis to support component team in completing the equipment department activities in budget.
  • Solid Understanding of HVDC/FACTS technologies, main circuit parameters calculation, Insulation co-ordination, fault scenarios. Should be able to mentor junior members of the team.                      
  • Extensive Experience in understanding and managing complex customer specifications. Expert level Review of multiple projects /tender submission simultaneously due to acquired expertise.          
  • Provide oversight of budget for engineering design, commissioning, maintenance, and equipment assessment.
  • Provided technical solutions for transformer replacement, network strength study etc.            
  • Deep Knowledge of applicable norms and standards
  • Ensure a lean approach and culture within the team and drive the team to committed cost and time savings                                                                                                                                 
  • Extensive Experience in tendering or execution of large turnkey projects       
  • Leadership experience with intercultural team of size 15-20 members.
