A Snapshot of Your Day

 

The R&D Control Systems Engineer will support the overall design and development of new Gas Turbine and Steam Turbine power plants. The power plants are configured as simple cycle or combined cycle with an output range of 200 MW to 1000 MW or more.

 

How You’ll Make an Impact

  • Join a team of controls engineers specialized in developing reference plant designs for large rotating gas and steam turbines.
  • Collaborate with other teams to develop control system solutions needed for safe reliable operation of the units.
  • Prepare specifications for control system components including hardware cabinet design, instrumentation, and turbine protection systems.
  • Extract functional requirements from P+IDs, system descriptions and other power plant documents to develop control system logic.
  • Validate new control solutions and components in lab environment using process simulation.
  • Continuous evaluation of project and customer feedback as basis for product improvement.
  • Preparation of test protocols for factory acceptance tests.
  • Provide technical support to other controls system engineers and plant commissioning activities.
  • Mentor other engineers on gas turbine operations, controls system architecture, logic development and trouble-shooting skills.
  • Ensure that established business processes are followed and seek opportunities to improve the established processes. Maintain and improve the tools and templates used to develop proposals and to document Controls design including MS Excel calculation tools and MS Word templates.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering; 8+ years of experience in Heavy Duty Turbine power plant controls engineering or similar machine/auxiliary system design is required. Those with current or previous experience working with Siemens Energy's customers, equipment, and processes is a plus but not required.
  • Profound experience with software/hardware engineering on Siemens Energy T3000 platforms, Emerson Ovation/WDPF, PCS7, or equivalent DCS based control systems.
  • Proficient in operation of Power Plant equipment and controls or similar experience of machine/system controls experience.
  • Experience in instrumentation selection and interfaces to Distributed Control Systems.
  • Excellent leadership, collaboration (great teammate), communication (written and verbal) and influencing skills. Excellent analytic and trouble-shooting capabilities and hands-on experience in problem-solving.
  • Strong decision-making skills and initiative (self-starter). Ability to prioritize while working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to travel in supporting site activities and to provide off-hour support as needed.
  • Applicants must be legally authorized for employment in the United States without need for current or future employer-sponsored work authorization. Siemens Energy employees with current visa sponsorship may be eligible for internal transfers.
