A Snapshot of Your Day

As a Principal Clearance Design Engineer for Cooling Flow, you will be at the heart of cutting‑edge gas turbine development driving service upgrades, enabling new products, and supporting a global service organization. You’ll collaborate with a diverse, international network of engineers, project managers, and experts from design, production, and service to turn complex challenges into high‑impact solutions.

You’ll take full ownership of your engineering topics, working independently while aligning priorities across a globally distributed team. This role offers the opportunity to make a visible impact, influence critical design decisions, and see your work translate directly into improved performance and reliability in the field.

How You’ll Make an Impact

Application of in-house and commercial calculation software for:

  • Develop and maintain calculation models for cooling air supply to hot gas path components within gas turbines
  • Create transient thermal and structural models to analyze heating behavior and thermal expansion of the entire turbine
  • Determine optimal assembly clearances between rotating and stationary components based on model predictions
  • Evaluate simulation results and derive design‑relevant conclusions to support component and system optimization
  • Contribute to conceptual development of the Secondary Air System and associated turbine components
  • Assess operational data from prototype engines and the existing fleet to validate models and drive design improvements

What You Bring

Required:

  • BS Mechanical Engineering or similar Engineering degree
  • 5-7+ years in the field of heat transfer and fluid mechanics, ideally with cooling air systems and clearance design for gas turbines.  Candidates with more years of experience may be considered at a higher level.
  • Technical knowledge of mechanical engineering, heat transfer and fluid mechanics

Highly Preferred:

  • Cooling air systems and clearance design for gas turbines
  • Knowledge in the application of numerical software like Ansys, Abaqus, NX, StarCCM, or similar
  • Knowledge of programming languages like Visual Basic, C++, C# and/or Fortran
  • Intercultural working experience in global teams

Export Control Requirement: Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
