A Snapshot of Your Day

We are seeking a qualified and energetic Primary Engineer to join GIS (Gas Insulated Switchgear) team based in Raleigh, NC. Within the Engineering team, the Primary Engineer is responsible for the Primary scope of work throughout the entire project lifecycle. Incumbents are expected to have the skills to provide engineering and technical expertise in this area, and to work with a high level of independence. This includes but is not limited to ensuring that the end result of design and manufacturing work is in accordance with national standards, contract specifications, functionality requirements, safety requirements, and applicable technical regulation.


How You’ll Make an Impact

  • Analyze customer specifications to design cost-effective GIS mechanical and monitoring systems tailored to Siemens Energy equipment.
  • Develop detailed engineering documentation for customer approval and manufacturing, collaborating with internal teams and external partners.
  • Ensure project profitability and timely delivery by managing personal workflow and coordinating across stakeholders.
  • Prepare and validate design submittals and engineering changes for compliance with customer requirements and industry standards (NESC, ANSI/IEEE).
  • Identify and communicate design challenges that may impact safety, quality, cost, or schedule, offering proactive solutions.
  • Support Factory and Site Acceptance Testing, maintaining procedural accuracy and economic control throughout the project lifecycle.


What You Bring

  • Bachelor's of Science in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering required.
  • 5 or more years of experience with high-voltage circuit breakers, AIS or GIS substation design 52 kV. New graduates with internship experience can be considered. Candidates with more experience can be considered for a higher level or vice-versa.
  • Proficient in design software such as AutoCAD Electrical, Visio, Inventor, and MicroStation.
  • Strong grasp of project management fundamentals with a focus on safety, quality, and customer satisfaction in fast-paced environments.
  • Proven ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and solve technical challenges with initiative and resourcefulness.
  • Excellent organizational, leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills, including writing and presenting effectively.

Travel, as needed, up to 30% in the US or Europe.

Applicants must be legally authorized for employment in the United States without need for current or future employer-sponsored work authorization. Siemens Energy employees with current visa sponsorship may be eligible for internal transfers.
