A Snapshot of Your Day

Machining Apprentices attend classes to complete their machinist degree while also working at our facility, applying the skills learned in class to the work they perform in the shop. The apprentice will work closely with a designated mentor to gain on-the-job training in machining fundamentals, shop floor safety, maintenance, and housecleaning, shift change overs, and other associated skills. They will also provide guidance and direction to junior apprentices and assist with apprenticeship events and recruiting. Throughout their program, apprentices will submit a regular report regarding their progress, complete projects, and meet periodically with their mentor and supervisor for feedback and check-ins.

How You’ll Make an Impact

  • In the first year you will gain knowledge about machining fundamentals both at school and work.
  • In the 2nd year, you will be assigned to a larger machine and begin learning the details about how to work safely and efficiently as you continue to take classes.
  • By the 3rd year, you will begin to operate your machine/machines on your own and continue to take classes.
  • In the 4th year, you will become proficient at 1 or more machines and complete your classes.
  • In 4 years, you will earn a Journeyman certificate and a 2-year machining degree.
