Job Title Environmental Health and Safety Advisor (EHS) Advisor

A Snapshot of Your Day

The Environmental Health and Safety Advisor reports to the Head of EHS to support in the planning/implementation, monitoring/measuring, reporting and delivery of all EHS related activities within Siemens Energy Gas Services

The role covers all aspects of Environment, Health & Safety (EHS).

The successful candidate will take a standardised approach for delivery of EHS across the business. Focus of the role is to ensure legal compliance with applicable internal and external EHS-related legislation and the prevention of EHS related hazards and risks, along with the promotion of Siemens Energy Zero Harm culture and ISO45001.

You will be responsible for supporting the Business Unit in responsibilities for Environmental Management to ISO14001, Energy Management to ISO50001, Waste Management and CoSHH and Occupational Health.

How You’ll Make an Impact

  • Define and implement EHS plan for on-site application
  • Support the EHS Objectives and Targets in planning and securing milestone results.
  • Provide regular updates to management on the promotion and putting in place our company EHS objectives for continuous improvement and ensure any non-compliance/roadblocks are highlighted.
  • Design and implementation of the Environmental Health and Safety Process Management in accordance with current legislation.
  • Establish and communicate EHS targets and determine related KPI for the project.
  • Advise - and where applicable - train site personnel in EHS systems/processes (e.g. COSHH Management, Zero Harm, Environmental Awareness, Contractor Control etc.).
  • Drive the business EHS culture by utilising the EHS Process as the standard approach.
  • Implement global policies and procedures at the site level, and develop and keep updated site-level EHS procedures, processing these through the EHS Systems Support.
  • Plan, conduct/participate in EHS inspections, assessments, audits, reviews. Participate in status meetings. Ensure implementation of (improvement) measures.
  • Actively engage and lead EHS risk management for the business, along with identifying areas to improve high risks.
  • To compile reports for all Siemens Energy partners on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis to issue site EHS performance data.
  • Present weekly EHS data for communication to the senior management team.
  • Plan, initiate and coordinate continuous improvement actions for all phases of the EHS projects. Ensure good practice sharing and feedback of experience e.g. through project milestone reviews and lessons learnt workshops.
  • To keep up-to-date with relevant Environmental and Health & Safety legislation, and ensure the business is informed of any relevant changes.
  • Assist and advise process-owners as they conduct risk/COSHH/DSE/Manual Handling assessments, and any specific risk assessments (eg. Young persons, pre-natal).
  • Internally audit departments and site-based contractors as per the EHS Internal Audit schedule, and complete audit reports.
  • Contribute in the delivery of our Zero Harm plans.
  • Contribute to the maintenance of the business ISO1400, ISO45001 and ISO50001 management systems.
  • Act as the lead in major EHS incident investigations and high potential near misses throughout the business ensuring the identification of immediate & root causes and implementation/close out of actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Develop & deliver EHS Awareness & Training and determine training needs.
  • Attend monthly Management Contractor meetings, and monthly contractor compliance review meetings.
  • Facilitate the development of Zero Harm Champions and be involved in Zero Harm committee meetings and department Zero Harm meetings
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of the business by owning assigned audits set annually by the business. This will include the auditing to ISO45001/ISO14001/ISO9001 and ISO50001.
  • The role incorporates all project related proceedings/activities with regard to EHS in order to meet the targeted results according to Management Review Objective and Targets set and EHS related compliance.

What You Bring

  • Educated to NEBOSH Certificate / working towards NEBOSH diploma in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent.
  • Working towards acquiring NEBOSH Certificate in Environmental Management or equivalent.
  • Expectation that CPD will be undertaken to attain CMIOSH.
  • Associate membership of IEMA advantageous.
  • Lead Auditor Qualification in IS45001/ISO14001/ISO9001/ ISO50001
  • Awareness of Power Station industry (Gas and Steam).
  • EHS experience in power generation or similar.
  • Experience in developing, maintaining and working to Management System standards of ISO45001/ISO14001/ISO9001
  • Able to influence at all levels of a business
  • Provide technical explanations to senior and operational staff
  • Train, coach and enthuse colleagues as a member of a coherent team
  • Management of multiple projects and contractors
