A Snapshot of Your Day

Siemens Energy is located in Raleigh, NC and is looking for an experienced designer to join GIS (Gas Insulated Switchgear) engineering team. Within the team, the Engineering designer is responsible for supporting primary and secondary scope of work throughout the entire project lifecycle. The designer’s work is expected to be in accordance with contract specifications, functionality requirements, safety requirements, and applicable technical regulation. Key internal working relationships for this position will be with the Primary and structural engineers and production engineers.


How You’ll Make an Impact

  • Providing drafting support for manufacturing Local Control Cabinets (LCC), including travel to LCC fabrication sites and producing 3D models, material lists, and wiring diagrams
  • Supporting drafting for GIS structural elements such as steel supports and walkways, generating 3D models and material lists
  • Collaborating with or independently supporting design teams to develop customer‑approval and manufacturing documents for LCC and mechanical systems, including layouts and parts lists
  • Coordinating with clients and third parties throughout the project lifecycle to ensure timely integration of procedures and project conformance using observations, reports, and meetings
  • Communicating engineering or design challenges to the Primary/Structural Engineer and recommending solutions to maintain safety, reliability, quality, cost, and schedule alignment
  • Maintaining and updating existing procedures through periodic reviewing and revising


What You Bring

  • Mechanical / Electrical degree required.
  • 1 or more years of drafting / design experience. Candidates with more experience can be considered for a higher level or vice-versa.
  • Proficiency in design software including AutoCAD Electrical, REVIT, Inventor, and MicroStation.
  • Strong attention to safety, quality, performance, and customer‑focused execution in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and excellent written communication skills.
  • Resourceful, hands‑on problem‑solving ability with initiative to work through technical obstacles.

Travel, as needed, up to 30%.

Applicants must be legally authorized for employment in the United States without need for current or future employer-sponsored work authorization. Siemens Energy employees with current visa sponsorship may be eligible for internal transfers.
