A Snapshot of Your Day

We are seeking a Protection and Control Engineer at Grid Automation Technology to have full responsibility for the successful execution of protection and control system design, planning, and engineering deliverables at the bay level for High Voltage Substations. You will develop technical solutions, comment on customer specifications and engineering standards, check and ensure compliance - particularly regarding electrical schematics, circuit diagrams, configuration, test and commissioning of Protection Systems for High Voltage Substations. Other equipment installed at the bay level like Bay control units, fault recorders and power quality devices also fall under your responsibility. You will work closely with project management and other domain experts within your team, and suppliers in the field of secondary control systems. The projects you are working on are located all around the world.


How You’ll Make an Impact

  • Configuration, Test and Commissioning of protection devices for HV Substation projects & Bay Control Units, Fault recorders and power quality devices for HV Substation projects.
  • Creation of project specific technical documents, list of materials, test-protocols, manuals, etc. meeting Mexican CFE technical specifications (LSPA).
  • Performing of Factory Acceptance Tests and Site Acceptance Tests.
  • Electrical schematics and circuit diagrams meeting Mexican CFE technical specifications.
  • Administration and coordination of signal lists
  • Conduct customer training


What You Bring

  • Completed university degree in electrical engineering, automation or comparable education
  • 5 or more years of professional experience with protection systems based in Mexico. Candidates with more experience can be considered for a higher level or vice-versa
  • Deep knowledge in protection devices from vendors like SEL (mandatory), GE, SIEMENS (SIPROTEC) for HV substations and of configuration tools like SEL AcSELerator for protection and control devices on bay level of a substation
  • Strong knowledge of regulations, standards and specifications for Protection and Control systems from Mexico is mandatory (CFE), and knowledge within different protection philosophies and protection test equipment like OMICRON
  • Basic knowledge of electrical schematics and circuit diagrams developed in tools like ELCAD, EBASE or similar (optional)
  • Good verbal and written communication skills in both English and Spanish (dual-fluency required)

Some travel required (up to 20%, some in the US).
