A Snapshot of Your Day

As a Senior Protection & Control Engineer, you will be responsible for relay protection and control engineering activities, including basic design, configuration / testing and specification of protection and control systems and review detailed design for high voltage substation and transmission projects. This position will offer the ability to directly apply candidate’s knowledge of protective relaying and controls systems in substation and transmission projects.


How You’ll Make an Impact

  • Building and leading a diverse team of engineers.
  • Supervising technical management of C&P offers, including analyzing tender documents and coordinating with project management and technical specialists.
  • Leading preparation of specifications, Bill of Material for Protection/Control/Metering/RTU/Communication Panels, and developing concepts for substation relaying and metering diagrams (i.e. A.C. schematic diagrams) and D.C. Schematic for basic design.
  • Developing Protection and Control Panel layouts, high-level cable schedules for Substation, and performing configuration and Factory Acceptance Tests for Protection and Control Panels.
  • Developing concept Diagram for substation control system and Communications interfaces including RTUs (remote terminal units), HMIs (human-machine interfaces), and IEDs (intelligent electronic devices).
  • Reviewing work performed by others and coordinating with engineering and design teams to ensure overall design package requirements.


What You Bring

  • BSEE or higher with a power systems emphasis from an ABET-accredited engineering program. MSEE is a plus.
  • 8 or more years of experience with a focus on protection/control/communications design for substations. *Candidates with more experience can be considered for a higher level or vice-versa.
  • Prior experience - Working with Remote-Terminal Units (RTUs), HMIs and DCSs; Performing configuration and Factory Acceptance and Site-Acceptance Testing; Influencing and leading project teams; With various vendor protective relay equipment typically used in substation protection, including SEL, Siemens, GE; Writing and providing support documentation for relay calculations.
  • Deep understanding for high voltage substations protection functions (distance, differential, bus bar protection functions).
  • Preferred qualifications - Knowledge of ANSI & IEC standards; Professional Engineering license; Know-How in Configuration Tools for protection relays from different vendors (SEL, Siemens, Hitachi, GE, Schneider) control systems, and AutoCAD or MicroStation.
  • Flexibility to travel locally and internationally to customer meetings and to project sites. (Approximate travel is 20-30%).
