A Snapshot of Your Day

Siemens Energy in Australia is seeking a Civil Engineer for the Grid Solutions team. The ideal candidate will understand local laws and standards, have the authority to sign civil engineering documents, and have a proven track record in civil engineering, project management, and site supervision. Responsibilities include overseeing civil design and construction activities, ensuring compliance with HSEQ standards, and supporting tendering processes with calculations, layout drawings, and concepts. You will be part of the project capture team during customer negotiations and clarifications. This role will be integral to completing Siemens Energy's “Transformation of Energy” projects, which are international EPC projects for FACTS systems.

Your day starts with a check-in with colleagues to share project experiences and discuss new technical approaches. You set your work agenda and prepare for afternoon customer negotiations. You discuss construction topics with your interdisciplinary project team and explain technical implementations based on customer requirements. The afternoon includes a customer meeting to present solutions, followed by a status discussion with your construction management team and contractors to coordinate schedules and collaborate

How You’ll Make an Impact

  1. Project Management: Lead and manage civil design/engineering and civil works in Grid Solution projects in Australia, ensuring timelines, budgets, and quality standards are met. Develop and manage project schedules, including procurement, materials, and resource allocation.
  2. Performance Monitoring: Monitor project performance, manage costs, and implement corrective actions as needed.
  3. Customer Relations: Manage customer expectations, solve issues, and identify additional opportunities within ongoing projects.
  4. Design and Construction Oversight: Oversee civil design activities, determine construction methods and materials, and provide technical guidance. Sign off on civil documents required for project execution and prepare CAD drawings according to local standards.
  5. Contractor Management: Supervise subcontractors and coordinate construction planning activities, ensuring compliance with project specifications and HSEQ standards.
  6. Cost Estimation and Budgeting: Estimate total costs, prepare detailed cost plans, monitor design changes, and negotiate variations.
  7. Quality Assurance: Ensure projects follow HSEQ Management System and health and safety laws.
  8. Team Leadership: Manage staff morale and discipline, ensure resource availability, and participate in staff meetings and operations management tasks.

What You Bring

  1. Education: Master’s degree or equivalent experience in civil engineering or related field.
  2. Experience: Several years in industrial and plant construction, focusing on civil engineering projects; initial professional experience also welcome.
  3. Expertise: Proficiency in all areas of civil engineering and MS Office tools, ideally iTwo.
  4. Certification: Registered Practicing Engineer Queensland (RPEQ) or equivalent certification convertible to RPEQ.
  5. Project Management: Proven ability to lead complex technical projects and multidisciplinary teams in international settings.
  6. Regulations: Strong knowledge of local laws and standards in Australia.
  7. Communication: Fluent in English, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, client-focused.
  8. Mobility: Working rights for Australia, driving license, and ability to travel locally and internationally for project phases.
