Machinist Artisan at Siemens Energy

The Machinist is responsible to setup and operates mechanical production machines including Turning, Milling, Cutting, Grinding. This includes manufacturing of high precision parts and products according to engineering specifications, quality requirements and manufacturing times for turbines, compressors, and related equipment.

How You’ll Make an Impact

·       Setup and operates production machines including conventional and CNC turning, milling, cutting and grinding machines.

·       Perform manufacturing and machining of parts and components

·       Perform basic machine-related CNC programming. 

·       Adherence to defined manufacturing and testing guidelines, processes, and procedures. 

·       Ensure that all production activities are according to established quality and EHS requirements. 

·       Contributes to production planning processes, determines priorities based on schedules. 

·       Interprets specifications and makes judgments about acceptability of production in process. 

·       Proposes procedures improvements and implements technical infrastructure. 

·       Participate in continuous improvement and optimization of maintenance and repair methods.

·       Ensure that all tools and equipment supplied are handled and maintained with care.

• Maintain machines and equipment.
• Must have a valid Trade qualification as a Mechanical Fitter and Turner
• Grade 12 or relevant equivalent tertiary qualification 

·       Ensure that the health and safety of employees, plant, equipment, and buildings are maintained in accordance with the health, safety and environmental policies of the company.

·       Comply with all Siemens Energy policies and procedures in all activities.

·       Ensure that housekeeping standards are maintained and adhered to

What You Bring 

Qualifications and Experience

·       Minimum of N3 with maths and science

·       Multiskilled machinist with extensive proven experience on conventional and CNC turning and milling machines, high precision surface grinders, cylindrical grinders, EDM Wire Cutter.

o   Manufacturing and repair machining to within 0,01mm accuracy

o   Heavy to medium CNC horizontal boring mill machining up to 5m length and 3m height using various sizes of boring heads, line boring of casings, housings, seals, gearboxes, and manufacturing of new components.

o   Medium CNC Vertical turning 2m diameter, including seals, segments, bearings, split components, and general vertical boring and repair machining.

o   Multi-Axis Precision CNC milling manufacturing of small to medium parts, including, bearings, housings, diaphragms.

o   Horizontal precision CNC Turning and milling up to 2m between centers, including, shafts, thin spindles, bushes, seals, screw cutting.

o   Develop and manufacture necessary jigging and tooling.

o   Experienced in operating with various CNC controllers, including Siemens, Fanuc, and HAAS

• Basic drawing skills on TurboCad will be a recommendation

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 

• Able to machine consistently to tolerances within 0,01mm accuracy.
• Knowledge of turbo machinery, compressors, turbine rotors, gear assemblies, fans etc..
• Must have knowledge and experience of principles, procedures, work routines and skills in the operation of production machines.
• Must be able to read and interpret engineering drawings.
• Computer skills required, MS Office Package and Outlook
• Valid Driver’s License

·       Be available after hours to for overtime and standby as required.

·       Reside in the Johannesburg area with own transport to work and back.
