To address this need, the role is structured around three core areas. Technical Governance & Standardization, which involves creating and maintaining the engineering standards for our protection systems, Expert Consultation & Project Support, focusing on providing high-level guidance and problem-solving for project teams and System Analysis & Quality Assurance, ensuring the integrity and performance of deployed systems.Given the focus on technical mastery and strategic influence, the ideal candidate will be a recognized expert in electrical engineering with extensive experience in protection systems. They will possess a proven ability to develop technical standards, lead complex troubleshooting efforts, and effectively communicate with senior leadership, supported by an advanced degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
How You’ll Make an Impact - Develop, establish and implement our electrical protection standards like schemes, logics and processes for generator and HV transformers protection as well as for the interface to the HV switchgear and grid interconnection.
- Work as part of a project team, responsible for the electrical protection system collaborating closely and communicating regularly with the lead electrical engineer, the project team, and relevant stakeholders.
- Lead the evaluation and introduction of new protection technologies and methodologies to enhance system performance and reliability.
- Act as the final technical authority on protection system concepts, specifications, and selection of core components
- Provide expert-level consultation to project engineering and execution teams on the design and application of protection systems.
- Serve as the primary escalation point for resolving the most complex technical challenges related to electrical protection systems.
- Mentor and guide other professionals and engineers within the electrical engineering discipline to foster technical growth.
- Oversee and define the quality assurance protocols for the commissioning and testing of electrical protection systems.
What You Bring- Master's degree (or equivalent, e.g., German 'Diplom-Ingenieur') in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field.
- Extensive (typically 10+ years) professional experience in the design, application, and troubleshooting of electrical protection systems, preferably in the power generation or transmission industry.
- Extensive hands-on experience with protection relays and IEDs similar to Siemens Siprotec 5 relays including developing relay settings, parameterization, testing, troubleshooting and life cycle support using DIGSI 5 engineering software.
- Experience integrating protection and control systems with plant SCADA, DCS, RTUs, and Energy Management Systems (EMS) using IEC 61850, Modbus, TCP/IP, IEC 60870-5-104, DNP3, and other industrial communication protocols would be an asset.
- Knowledge of international standards including IEC, IEEE, grid code requirements, and utility protection philosophies.
- Demonstrated experience as a subject matter expert, with a proven track record of developing technical standards and providing technical leadership on complex projects.
About the Team
In our multicultural team, we are responsible for the entire engineering of Gas and Service Solutions business.
