A Snapshot of Your Day
As a Calpine Portfolio Manager, your day centers on leading and supporting a team of Project Managers responsible for the planning and execution of both planned and emergent maintenance for Central Units. You balance technical oversight with customer engagement, ensuring maintenance solutions align with operational needs while delivering exceptional service. Throughout the day, you safeguard financial performance and contractual compliance, collaborate cross-functionally to strengthen long-term customer partnerships, and identify opportunities that drive sales growth. This role combines leadership, strategic thinking, and relationship management to ensure reliable assets, satisfied customers, and strong business outcomes.
How You’ll Make an Impact
- Lead execution of a portfolio of Open Market programs, ensuring consistent performance across planning, outages, implementation, and close-out, with clear accountability for cost, schedule, scope, and customer commitments.
- Lead comprehensive quarterly financial reviews across projects and programs, ensuring accurate reporting, transparency, and strong financial performance.
- Serve as escalation owner for cross-functional execution or ownership issues, resolving conflicts quickly to protect customer outcomes and maintain delivery continuity.
- Provide coaching and oversight to develop Project Managers as effective, customer-facing leaders across contractual, technical, and commercial matters, including outage readiness and post-event follow-up.
- Ensure disciplined use of PM execution processes by holding Project Managers accountable for TMS leadership, risk and readiness reviews, action tracking, and effective coordination with Service Operations, Sales, Engineering, Order Management, and Shops.
- Provide commercial and contract oversight to support sound PM decision-making on contract interpretation, EWAs, change orders, invoicing strategies, concessions, and risk ownership, in alignment with company policy and delegated authority.
- Proactively manage technical and financial risk across the portfolio to drive project success, customer satisfaction, and long-term loyalty.
- Partner closely with Field Service, Contracts, Finance, and Sales Central to align project delivery with contractual requirements and commercial strategies.
- Travel up to 25% to support customers, teams, and critical project execution needs.
What You Bring
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, with 10+ years of relevant experience in the power generation industry.
- Proven project management experience delivering complex, high-value projects for multiple customers.
- Strong financial acumen, including experience in budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and conflict-resolution skills, with the ability to navigate challenging customer situations effectively.
- A proactive risk-management mindset, with experience identifying and implementing mitigation strategies to ensure project success.
