Siemens Energy has an exciting opportunity to develop and grow a new business function in support of the growing UK offshore renewable and HVDC interconnector market.

With the increase in demand for HVDC technology moving forward, we have decided to establish a dedicated team within the UK to support the delivery of future projects including a full transient network analysis laboratory for functional and dynamic performance testing.

As an IT Network Engineer for HVDC Projects you will work within a team of HVDC project management and engineering specialists to design and deliver full HVDC network system for both wind farm grid connections and interconnectors making use of a new transient network analysis laboratory located in Manchester.

You will also support the exiting AC control and protection team with the delivery of HVAC wind farm grid connection solutions both in the UK and internationally.

You will report to the Engineering Manager – SCADA and Communications and will be required to provide engineering work packages in line with project and business objectives.

You will also be involved in production of engineering and test specifications and specifications of the product.

Your Profile:

• Degree in electrical engineering, automation technology or network / communication technology

• Experience in industrial networks

• Experience in project engineering, customer clarification, working in complex teams

• Understanding for SCADA systems as part of energy transmission system (Substations, etc.)

• Configuration of Switches, routers, firewalls from manufacturer CISCO, RuggedCom, Checkpoint, etc.

• IT Security for IT networks, regulations, and hardening measures to fulfil the same

• Network monitoring and trouble shooting

• Very good English language skills including Technical English, German language skills are of advantage

• Theoretical knowledge of TCP/IP, routing, switching, network separation, zone concepts, redundancy mechanisms etc.

• Knowledge of switch, router, firewall configuration from manufacturer CISCO, RuggedCom, Checkpoint, etc.

• System integration and commissioning of the specific components (firewalls) in the test laboratory in Manchester (verification of proper rule settings and hardening measures).

• Conduct / support Factory Acceptance Tests with sub suppliers and customers.

• Good knowledge of industry security standards (NERC Cip, IEC62443, BDEW)

Your responsibilities:

• As part of control & protection team you will be responsible for the design and implementation of the IT network infrastructure for our High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) projects.

• Project Engineering "IT Network Communication" for HVDC control & protection systems (LAN/ WAN Communication, Time synchronization, remote access, telecommunication (Design of the IT network infrastructure for control & protection equipment utilized in HVDC plants to ensure reliable communication between the various automation devices, integration of process devices and subsystems in the network)

• Creation and maintenance of project specific technical specifications, documents & manuals. Clarification of communication concepts with internal departments and external suppliers and customers.

• Configuration of communication components (router, switch, firewall, master clock, etc.) under consideration of IT- security requirements

• System integration and commissioning of the various components in the test field (Verification of proper communication between the various components, IT-Security, time synchronization, redundancy, etc.) Conduct/ support Factory Acceptance Tests with sub suppliers and customers
